Notification of Proposed Highway Maintenance Works

This update is to inform you of essential highway maintenance works to be undertaken on the A1.

Attached is a drawing showing the extents of a scheme on the northbound carriageway at Blyth (Drawing Number 211151/00/01). See the map here.

The works will be undertaken in a predominantly rural environment.

Works will comprise carriageway planing/resurfacing, the application of road markings and the installation of road studs.

Site works are presently programmed to be carried out overnight, commencing 24 June 2013. Traffic management will commence to be installed at 20:00hrs and be completely removed by 06:00hrs. Every attempt will be made to complete the noisiest activities as early as possible.

The total number of shifts to complete the two schemes has not yet been determined.

The works are such as to require full closures of the northbound A1 carriageway.

Advance warning will be given to the travelling public and to those residents and businesses directly affected.

Liaison is taking place with relevant highway and local authorities regarding the closure/diversion aspects, traffic being diverted as follows:-

Main Diversion – All Routes, A1, A57 & A614 (A1 Northbound Traffic Diversion)

A1 Northbound traffic heading towards Blyth will be diverted off at the Markham Moor (A57/A638) Junction onto the A638 towards Retford. At Retford the traffic will continue along the A638 until it reaches the A638/A614 Junction. Traffic will then be diverted left onto the A614 towards Serlby. Traffic will continue along the A614, passing past Serlby, until it reaches the Blyth (A1[M]/A614) Junction. Diversion ends.

A57 & A614 Northbound traffic heading towards A1 Blyth will be diverted south at Apleyhead (A57/A614) Junction. Diverted traffic will continue south until it reaches the Markham Moor (A57/A638) Junction, where it will be diverted onto the A638 towards Retford. At Retford the traffic will continue along the A638 until it reaches the A638/A614 Junction. Traffic will then be diverted left onto the A614 towards Serlby. Traffic will continue along the A614, passing past Serlby until it reaches the Blyth (A1[M]/A614) Junction. Diversion ends.

Local Diversion – A1 Northbound Traffic at Ranby

A1 NB local traffic wishing to use the Ranby (A620/B6079) Junction Northbound Entry Slip Road will diverted along the A620 through Ranby until its junction with the A638. Traffic will then join the main diversion route as detailed above. Diversion ends.

Local Diversion – A1 Northbound, Blyth Local Traffic

A1 NB Blyth local traffic will diverted along the main diversion as above but will be diverted off the A638 at Barnby Moor onto the A634 (Retford Road) towards Blyth. Diversion ends.
