WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: Please note that there is no official meeting of the group in August.

Some members like to meet with their peers during August (to avoid withdrawal symptoms) and it has been suggested that a trip to Gainsborough Old Hall take place on Wednesday 16th August to have a look at the exhibit of clothes from the TV series “Wolf Hall”. This would be combined with the August meal out and would incorporate afternoon tea at the Chambers Café within the hall grounds. Interested parties should contact the secretary as soon as possible to book a place. Michelle Jaafar on (01777) 818 092. Members old and new always welcome.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local association  held its meeting on Wednesday 26th July at the usual time of 2:30pm as scheduled. Various items came under discussion during the meeting including the election of new chairperson, update on “Speedwatch” in the village, anti-social behaviour reports amongst many other topics.

  • The group were pleased to welcome Beat Manager 3258 PC Jason Fellows to the meeting who was accompanied by a Special Constable to observe how the group operated. The Beat Manager gave an update on the latest crime figures, and although one crime is one too many, the village itself is at the lower end of the scale when incidents are recorded. Where “Hotspots” occur, more cover is needed, and officers are often deployed to these areas, PC Fellows reiterated that the village is never left without cover. The Anti-social Behaviour incidents were also raised and the police would follow up the claims in due course and would visit the area as and when available. The Special Constable present informed the meeting that himself and a colleague had operated a speed reduction session in the village recently and a number of motorists were reported for exceeding the limits within the village.
  • With reference to the election of a new chairperson, a request for volunteers was made, but with no success on this occasion. This matter was deferred until the next meeting in September.
  • Secretary Nigel Johnson gave an update on the local speedwatch situation, and although this was proving effective it seems to take forever to re-educate people as old habits die hard. The meeting was informed that more sessions were planned and volunteers were standing by to man the apparatus when necessary.
  • A general discussion took place re-village incidents and various points were discussed. The meeting came to a close at 4:00pm approximately.
