ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: “A Family Service” will take place at the local church on Sunday 15th October, please come along and bring the family.
The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The local Neighbourhood Watch Committee group held their monthly meeting on Wednesday 27th September at the usual time of 2:30pm. At this meeting the following items came under discussion:
- Election of new Chair: Following on from suggestions made at the last meeting that Marilyn Boeuf would make an ideal Chairperson, Marilyn agreed to take on the role. However with her present situation Marilyn felt that she would need a Vice Chair to cover when she was unable to attend. It was agreed to ask Frank Bradley. Marilyn then assumed the role of Chair for the rest of the meeting.
- Arrangements for the Groups Administrative Duties: Nigel Johnson explained that when he took on the role of secretary it was only going to be for a period of 6 months and that this meeting was his last. The Group therefore had to come up with an alternative and Nigel suggested that whoever hosts a meeting assumes the secretarial role for that meeting distributing an agenda beforehand and providing minutes of the meeting afterwards. After discussion it was agreed that this was the best way forward and the majority of the Group’s members would only have administrative duties once a year.
Another meeting next month, Wednesday 29th November at the usual time of 2:30pm.
GARDENING CLUB: On Tuesday 3rd October, Rob Potterton addressed the members on Alpines and bulbs from Mountain to Market. Pottertons specialist growers of Alpines, Dwarf Bulbs and Woodland plants are based in Nettleton near Caistor, Lincolnshire. An interesting and informative talk with a slide show presentation in excellent colour showing many plants and shrubs and seedlings brought back from their natural habitat in China and Nepal and surrounding areas.
After the talk and during a break for refreshments, Rob and his wife were on hand to sell some of the many bulbs offered for sale on the night. Details of the club and its activities available from Elaine Hauser on (01777) 705 274.

Well, technology finally came good and the group were all able to enjoy Chris Locke’s presentation on the Pilgrim Fathers last Friday. He managed to mix the history with lots of art references to inspire us all to go off and create something wonderful for the Pilgrim Fathers festival taking place in November. After the presentation Elaine Nash did one of her wonderful workshops, this time on ‘Through a Window Pane’. She demonstrated how to effectively turn an ordinary painting into a representation of stained glass, which some of us tried to emulate afterwards. Thanks to both of them for a really entertaining morning. Further details of the group and any vacancies are available from Joan Reiter on (01777) 702 137.
