ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: At the local church on Sunday 24th December (Christmas Eve), “Songs of Praise” will take place. The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

Later in the day, at 6:00pm, the Crib Service will take place; please come along and join in. Once again everyone is welcome.

On Monday 25th December (Christmas Day), “Holy Communion” will take place at the regular time of 9:30am.

BREAKING NEWS: An observant Neighbourhood Watch Member out walking the village spotted a van parked outside the former village store. The villager made enquiries in an unobtrusive manner as to his purpose in the village. Surveying officer for Post office Services was the reply, viewing possible site for the new mail box and exploring the possible suggestions of siting same either near the bus shelter on Town Street or near the telephone box on the village green at the junction of Sutton Lane and Station Road.

This comes after continuous efforts by the Parish Council, supported and chased by Our County/ District Councillor Tracey Taylor on behalf of villagers. Watch this space. Thanks to both.

BURNS SUPPER: An independent group from outside the village have decided to organise a Burns Supper in 2018. The event will be held on Friday 26th January 2018 in the Village Hall

NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN: A group from the village were present at Bassetlaw District Council meeting on the evening of Thursday 14th December held in Retford Town Hall. They were there in support of the agenda item concerning the village’s Neighbourhood plan. The plan has passed its independent examination with a recommendation that it goes to a referendum. At the council meeting there were no objections and no abstentions at this stage.

District Councillor Tracey Taylor spoke in favour of the plan and its contents, outlining the efforts and hard work by many people assisted by the parish council to produce such a detailed document. Thanks must go to Chair of the parish plan group Simon Bell and his team and the parish council for all their efforts on behalf of the community.

VINTAGE TEAS: Local residents Judi Walters and Nicky Sorsby have put their creative talents to good use by organising bespoke pop-up vintage tea parties. One of the main venues being here at Sutton Village Hall. The event is fast catching on, becoming very popular, the last one held in Sutton on Saturday 16th December attracting 53 customers who were intent in quenching their thirsts and eating their way through sumptuous sandwiches cakes and scones during the session which lasts from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.

A few stalls were present in the curiosity corner, including candles, greeting cards, jewellery various Christmas bits and pieces. Local chef and butler Nigel Bower was present with fresh home-made pies and pastries as well as Quiche’s and Bacon on sale.

A full vintage afternoon tea should be ordered in advance by calling Judi on (07970) 052 055, or otherwise just call in for tea and cakes and conversation, all done in convivial company. Other parties have shown interest in the set up and are hoping to tempt the girls to provide the service in various village halls in the surrounding area.

The next session here at Sutton is scheduled for Saturday 17th February 2018 at the usual starting time of 1:30pm.
