Rumours abound that IGas had indicated to the Springs Road (SR) CLG last week that a decision had already been taken to abandon the well at Tinker Lane. We contacted the IGas Communications Manager, who attends the SR CLG who gave us the following statement:

“The cellar hasn’t been filled and no official announcement has been made regarding the future of the site. The evaluation is ongoing. My colleague mentioned at the SR CLG he was making plans for restoration but that is because his roles are construction and restoration.”

Looking over the fence today and we could see that some cabins were being removed, loaded by crane onto a low loader. Plenty of low loaders around and a large forklift, at a guess onsite to remove the unused casing of which there is plenty, presumably the bottom casing. What was interesting was the rusting that was already apparent on the conductor and intermediate casing offcuts (see image). One wonders how long casing actually lasts underground.
