GARDENING CLUB

The gardening club met on Tuesday 5th March at Barnby Moor village hall at the usual time of 7:15pm. On this occasion Janet Peto addressed the group on “Hedgehog Welfare”. The speaker commenced her talk by highlighting the life of the hedgehog. They are normally found in our gardens from late February to early December, depending on the weather! The group were advised on the handling of the creature, feeding habits and advice on foods to provide and signs of problems and what to do to help.

These animals are close to becoming endangered species, with numbers declining rapidly due to environmental changes and other dangers in the community. In really hot weather, hedgehogs starve to death and/ or die of dehydration. (more die of dehydration each year than are killed on the roads. A very interesting and informative talk providing lots of tips and advice on Hedgehog welfare. Further information on garden hedgehogs available from HEDGEHOG WELFARE  tel: 07940 714 830 or HEDEHOG WELFARE P.O. Box 8686 Grantham Lincs. NG31 0AG
