ST BARTHOLOMEWS’ CHURCH: The next service on Sunday 31st March (fourth Sunday in Lent) is Mothering Sunday and will revert to the normal time of 9:15am.

GARDENING CLUB: When the gardening club next meet on Tuesday 2nd April at Barnby Moor village hall it will be the occasion of the groups AGM. Members and visitors are invited to join their peers for wine and nibbles on this occasion, as it is the AGM there will be no speaker on the night. Visitors or prospective new members are welcome, a small cover charge applies. Further information about the club and its activities available from Elaine Hauser on 07969 254 920. SUTTON ART GROUP: Sutton Art Group is exhibiting at the Hub in Cannon Square, Retford from 6th April to 30th April; entry is free. Opening times are Saturday 10:00am to 4:00pm (Tues closed from 1:00pm).  Please pop in when you are next in town.

The Group is also organizing two ‘art’ trips; if you are interested please email ag@siewndavid.plus.com to receive further details.

  • The first is to Liverpool’s Walker Gallery on Saturday 20th July 2019. The cost is £15.00 per person.
  • The second is to the Staithes Art Festival on Saturday 7th September 2019 at £15.00 per person.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The meeting of the committee of the local neighbourhood watch group took place on Wednesday 27th March at the usual time of 2:30pm. Details to follow.

MOBILE LIBRARY VAN: The library van visited the village on Monday 25th March 2019, as scheduled, stopping at the usual places.

CHURCH SERVICE: A Worship for All” service took place at the local church on Sunday 24th March 2019 (the third Sunday of Lent). The service was conducted by the local vicar, Reverend Cora Yarrien. This service is held at the later time of 4:00pm and usually falls on the fourth Sunday in the month. On this occasion, readings from the Gospel were performed by Janet Webb. The intercessions: Reverend Cora Yarrien. Organist: Geof Webb. After the service the congregation were invited to remain for refreshments and socialise with their peers.

SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR W.I.: When the ladies of the local W. I. met on Wednesday 20th March at 7:15pm in Sutton Village Hall, it was the occasion of the groups AGM. The committee stood down en-bloc on the night and with no nominations from the floor the previous committee were re-elected and agreed to stand for a further twelve months. The new committee now consists of the following members:

  • President: Ann Fraser
  • Vice President: Angela Richards
  • Secretary: Fiona Pagdin
  • Treasurer: Christine Abbott
  • supported by members: Jane Childs, Monica Hockenhull, Michelle Jaafar, Pauline Marsh, and Jackie Payne.

After the elections and official business, members were invited to join in a buffet supper provided by the committee.

At the next meeting scheduled for Wednesday 17th April, members will be invited to take part in an interactive scarf demonstration by Gillian Anderson. The usual raffle will take place! Members old and new always welcome. The group meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month in Sutton Village Hall at the regular time of 7:15pm. Ladies you are invited to join them!

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The meeting of the neighbours group took place on Wednesday 20th March at the usual time of 1:00pm in the Village Hall.   Another good turnout on the day with forty places reserved. Local chef and caterer Nigel Bower was on hand once again to provide an excellent meal on the day, served by organizer Joan Reiter and her team of helpers. The usual raffle took place again with a plethora of prizes to choose from, conducted by draw master Fred Payne. Local vicar Reverend Cora Yarrien called in and shared a meal with the gathering, afterwards saying a few words to diners present. Tracey Taylor, local councilor for Sutton Ward was also present at the event and mingled with villagers. Another simple quiz took place, again with some high scores on the day. Diners went home happy and well fed, singing the praises of the facilities on offer, bringing the rural communities together.

SUTTON PARISH COUNCIL: The Parish Council met on Wednesday 13th March at the usual time of 7:00pm in Sutton Village Hall. A report will follow.

QUIZ NIGHT: The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. 8:00pm start and bar open.

YOUTH CLUB: The Youth Club continue to meet on a Tuesday night from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the Village Hall (except for the first Tuesday in the month). New members are always welcome.
