As a general principle, we don’t delete things, but they may disappear from view. Here are a few handy tips for finding something that you know has been published, but which may have disappeared off the home page radar.

As things appear, they usually pop onto the home page, since they’re normally important or current and need to be seen first. As other things materialise they push things off the radar into the great heap of the older news category. Since there’s only so much space on the home page to be had, the old stuff disappears behind the scenes. However, they are still there – you just have to know how to find them.

Search

The Search box on every page lets you type any free-format text, and then hit Enter.

All matches for your words or phrase will be shown as a list of posts, from which you can then pick the one you want. You may have to scroll through the list, depending on what you’ve searched for.

Categories

All posts have at least one appropriate Category, for example, Bassetlaw District Council. If you know (roughly) what category the thing you’re after may have been, then try selecting it from the Category list.

All posts within the Category you have selected will be shown as a list of posts, from which you can then pick the one you want. Some categories have more posts than others, so you may have to scroll through them.

Archives

If you can’t remember what it was about, but know roughly when it was published, then try the Archives. All posts have a published date so, for example, if you know that something appeared around Christmas then try selecting December from the Archive Calendar.

All posts for the month / date you have selected will be shown as a list of posts, from which you can then pick the one you want. Some months have more posts than others, so you may have to scroll through them.

Tags

All posts generally have a couple of words or phrases to add a bit of context, for example, Sutton Lane. These are known as tags. The full list of all tags is shown below. Find the most likely one and click the link to show a list of all posts with that tag.

Want something publicising?

Don’t forget, if you have any event or item of interest for the village, just email it to webmaster@suttoncumlound.net and our resident website monitor will do his best to accommodate you. All posts go out to our increasing list of email update subscribers as soon as they’re published.

We also have the Sutton Spotlight, which goes out to every house in the village on a quarterly (ish) basis. Space is sometimes limited, so try to get your entry in early.

We’re also lucky to have a village Journalist who collates news and updates for the Retford Times on a weekly basis. Get your copy in on Monday morning for the Thursday issue.

All our website updates are also sent down the village “X formerly Twitter” feed, @SuttonCumLound. So, follow us there for these and other items in and around our area.

The Parish Council has a Facebook presence for all things of a council nature. Contact the Clerk if you want anything on this feed.
