In 2014 we celebrate 20 years of art in Sutton Village Hall. The Group started with 14 members and with financial support from the Parish Council who had received a grant to encourage art and culture in the regional villages. Support soon built up and the Group became self-financing, as it has been ever since. We now have a membership limit of 24 and much of the time there are no vacancies.
The first tutor was Ruth Whitham and, although most members at the time had no experience, she successfully showed the Group how to use different media and many techniques and art forms. Liz Woodcock took over and the Group continued to thrive.
The Group currently has 23 members with around half living in Retford and surrounding villages. Sessions are held in Sutton Village Hall on Friday mornings 10:00am to 12:00 noon, and once a month 10:00am to 1:00pm when our present tutor, Elaine Nash, provides demonstrations, insight, advice and critique. We also have several ‘full day’ workshops from 10:00am to 3:00pm with different visiting artists who work in different mediums. There have also been residential weekends with many members taking part.
We enjoy a friendly atmosphere and new members are made very welcome. If you are interested in joining why not pay us a visit on a Friday morning to see what its like and chat to members. Alternatively if you wish to make an enquiry please contact either:
