Recent Club Activity
Members of Sutton cum Lound & Barnby Moor gardening club and some of the local community embarked on a coach trip to RHS Harlow Carr, where we spent a most enjoyable day. The weather kept fine after a cloudy start, and lots of plants were brought back.
September’s talk was “Orchids, how to make them blooming flower” by Ray Creek who gave an excellent presentation about how to care for our orchids and dispelled a lot of myths surrounding their care. Members were also able to purchase orchid compost and feed.
In October, we welcomed Janice Bradley (MBE), who is Head of Nature Recovery (North) Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust based at the Idle Valley Rural Learning Centre. She spoke about “Return of the beavers” from both a local and national perspective. This was an excellent talk and highlighted how much work and research our nature reserve contributed to national scientific research.
November will be “All about chocolate” a talk by Alan Dickson who will be talking about cocoa pods, plants its growth and ultimately providing some wonderful chocolate to buy.
In December, the gardening club will be contributing to the Sutton cum Lound Christmas tree festival in St. Bartholomew’s church (13-14th December) and celebrating with a Christmas meal for gardening club members in the village hall.
