ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: This Sunday, 8th May at the local church, a “Sung Eucharist” will take place. The service commences as usual at 9:30am and everybody is welcome.

VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The date for the AGM is Monday 9th May at 7:30pm in the Village Hall. On this occasion the whole committee will stand down and a new committee will be formed. Anyone who wishes to be considered for a position should ‘phone 07528 831 685 as soon as possible or email: chair@suttonvillagehall.net.

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: Tuesday 10th May is the next Meet the Neighbours gathering at the village starting at 2:00pm. This is your chance to come along and support the organisers at the same time catching up on all the latest news and views from around the area. Afternoon tea is not compulsory but comes highly recommended.

COFFEE MORNING: You are cordially invited to join regular hosts Brian and Kathryn Seddons at the forthcoming coffee morning in the Village Hall on Saturday 14th May from 10:30am – 12:30pm. Come along and enjoy coffee or tea, have a chat and find out about local events. A £2.00 entry fee for coffee and cake includes your entry to the instant raffle held during the event. Socialise in convivial company and help raise funds for the Village Hall.

THE ANNUAL PARISH MEETING: Will be held on Wed 11th May at 7:00pm in the Village Hall. All members of the Parish are cordially invited to attend to hear reports from around the Parish and represent their views to Council members. Representatives from The Village School, Village Hall Committee, and The Parish Plan Committee, St Bartholomew’s Church, and The Idle Valley Nature reserve are all due to deliver a brief report on these areas of the community.

The meeting will be followed directly by the Annual Parish Council Meeting, and once again Parishioners are welcome to attend.

MOTHERS UNION: The next meeting of the Babworth and Sutton Mothers’ Union will be on Monday 6th June at 2:00pm.in Ranby church. Visitors and new members always welcome.

VILLAGE PLANTERS: Calling all green fingered Parishioners. Following a very hard winter it is now time to think ahead to the summer and bright floral displays in the village. The Parish Council are looking for volunteers to form a working party on May 7th at 10:00am, to help clear out and re set the village planters ready for the summer. The compost and plants are provided by the Parish Council, but we do need help in getting the planters set up. This is a seasonal task to set up for the coming season, and is not a regular or tying commitment, as our local farmer Mike Walters attends to the weekly watering for us, (thank you Mike). QUIZ NIGHT: “All the Birthdays” were the winning team in last Sunday’s quiz held at the Gate Inn. The victors decided on the mystery prize on this occasion.

Another quiz on Sunday, usual 9 o’clock start.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The local association are due to hold their AGM on Monday 16th May 2011 and the venue is Sutton Village Hall.

The meeting will start at 7:30pm, and Chairman and Area Co-ordinator Harry Hopkins and his team will be pleased to welcome members and non-members to the event.

Please come along and show support for the local team. Light refreshment will be provided on the night.

SCHOOL NEWS: Another busy half-term at Sutton school. A whole host of sporting activities have taken place and the community lunches continue to be a great success. A “Mock Baptism was held at St. Bartholomew’s church which involved the whole school, parents and carers. Mothers Day was celebrated at both the schools celebration assembly and the Sunday church service, which a small group of children attended with Mrs Garfoot. They sang and rang bells and were accompanied by a lone xylophone.

Easter was obviously the main focus at the end of term. The “extended services” meant that the school could hold “Easter Activities” after school which all the local community could attend. A lovely Easter Service was held at the local church and the children also had the opportunity to celebrate the forthcoming Royal Wedding.

Mrs Goodman provided an excellent buffet lunch for the school with parents and carers also invited.

The PTA held several events, including a disco, egg hunt, decorate an egg or bonnet competition and a “Penny Collection”

The school also raised a sum of £144.95p for Comic Relief Red Nose Day by carrying out various tasks and activities. Well done to all who helped organise the events and Mr Banks for being a great sport.

COMMUNITY SPRING CLEAN: The Parish are once again taking part in Bassetlaw’s Parish “Spring Clean” scheme. This will take place on May 14th. Meeting at the Village Hall at 10:00am volunteers are asked to come along and spend just a couple of hours litter picking through the village. All equipment will be provided. Free Refreshments funded by the Parish Council will be available at the Village Hall from 10:00am. So start with a drink before setting off around the Parish. Remember this is your Parish, please come along, get involved, and make a difference.

WHEELIE BINS: Residents are reminded that Green bins should be put out for collection late on Monday night (9th May) or early Tuesday morning.
