IDLE VALLEY SOCIETY: When the Idle Valley Natural History Society held their meeting at Barnby Moor Village Hall on Tuesday 1st November at 7:30pm Ray Goodburn was the speaker.

Ray is no stranger to the society having been previous visits when he addressed the group on “The Splendours of Venice”   On this occasion the chosen subject was “The Nile”.

The speaker informed the group in detail of his boat trip on this famous river, telling of the meetings with various tribes and communities he met and in fact stayed and socialised with along the way.

This was both a very informative and educational evening and much enjoyed by those present.

On completion of the talk Chairman Adrian Blackburn gave the customary vote of thanks.

In December there is no monthly meeting scheduled, but the group will come together for a Christmas Lunch on Tuesday 6th which will be held at the Red Hart in Blyth.

Members will gather at the venue at 12:00noon in readiness to dine at 12:30pm.and further details are available from Secretary Margaret Stacey on 01777 818 478.

ST. BARTHOLOMEWS CHURCH: A “Remembrance Service” will be held at the local church on Sunday 13th November. The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm.

The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.

SUTTON ART GROUP: Sutton Art Group will hold their annual art exhibition and sale of work at Sutton Village Hall on Sunday 20th November from 11:00am -4:00pm.

Entry is free and refreshments will be available. Villagers are invited to come along and view the many exhibits on show, with some available for purchase on the day.

MUSIC QUIZ: Will villagers please note that the music quiz planned for Thursday 10th November has had to be cancelled due to lack of interest at this time. The event may take place at a later date if there was a major show of support for such a happening.

ZUMBA FITNESS: Please note this new fitness craze has now changed its schedule and now takes place in Sutton Village Hall every Monday evening from 7:00pm – 8:00pm.

Due to a change in circumstances the event will not take place on Monday 14th but will revert to normal times as from Monday 21st.

Open to over 16’s and entry fee is £4.00. Come along and have some fun whilst getting fit.

VILLAGE VENTURES: The latest programme from Village Ventures, the rural and communities touring scheme takes place on Thursday 24th November – How Steeple Sinderby Wanderers Won the F.A. Cup.

Is it possible? Could a humble village team really have taken on the best that the football leagues could throw at it and still come out on top?

Doors open at 7:00pm. Performance starts at 7:30pm. Tickets: £7.00 (£4.00 for 16 or under).

SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR WI: The next meeting of the group will be held on Wednesday16th November at 7:15pm in Sutton Village Hall. The speaker on this occasion will be Diane Hemsley who will demonstrate jewellery making.

Visitors and new members always welcome, further information available from the secretary.

THE EDWARDIAN CHOIR: The event went ahead as planned, and on Thursday 3rd November a group of 45 people were entertained with songs from the shows.

Rogers and Hammerstein featuring heavily in a mixed repertoire that also included ABBA and the New Seekers, in fact something for everybody.

A lively and entertaining show with audience participation.

COFFEE MORNING: The next coffee morning will be held on Saturday 10th December in the Village Hall and hosted as usual by Brian and Kathryn Seddons.

The usual charges apply and the £2.00 entry fee includes, cake, Coffee / Tea / biscuits, and entry into the instant raffle.

As we approach the festive season this coffee morning will be one with a difference and will host a few seasonal stalls sited around the hall. These will include cards, arts and crafts, and decorations.
