VILLAGE HALL: The more observant people in the village will have noticed the scaffolding placed around the hall which was erected on Friday and Saturday of last week.

Work commenced on Monday morning of this week with the removing of all the old pan tiles from the roof and should be almost completed by this coming week-end. This will then enable the contractors to commence the checking of the roof timbers before embarking on the task of replacing the new tiles to the roof.

This is the start of renovation or improvement works to the hall which the Village Hall Committee has been organising for some considerable time. The improvements will be carried out in various stages and residents will be kept informed as to the progress of the works at regular intervals.

The Village Hall Committee would like to thank all user groups and nearby residents for their co-operation in these matters which on completion will benefit the community as a whole.

ST. BARTHOLOMEWS CHURCH: “Songs of Praise” is the order of service at the local church this week on Sunday 27th November. The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm.   The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.

POLICE: Local Beat manager for the area PC Steve Bolstridge can be contacted on Mobile: 07525 226 886 for information and advice. Alternative Police contact can be made on: 101 the new number now in use for non-emergency calls. More urgent needs may require a 999 call.

ZUMBA FITNESS: Would regular patrons please note that Zumba classes have now run their course for this year. The new weekly session starts Monday 16th January 2012 at the regular times of 7:00 – 8;00pm at Sutton.

Alternative classes are also held at 6:15pm on Tuesday at Misterton Junior School and on Friday 6:00pm at Walkeringham Village Hall.

Open to over 16’s and entry fee is £4.00. Come along and have some fun whilst getting fit.

SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR WI: The group met on Wednesday16th November at 7:15pm in Sutton Village Hall with President Jackie Payne on hand to deal with all the business agenda.

On completion of the formalities it was time to introduce the speaker for the evening.

The speaker was actually a demonstrator and Diane Hemsley soon had the ladies choosing a selection of beads and semi-precious stones which they would later turn Into a variety of necklaces as a craft and jewellery evening ensued. A very enjoyable evening followed with all the ladies completing their project and all to a very high standard.  At the end of the session the customary vote of thanks was given by the President.

The competition for the evening “ A favourite gemstone” was won by Wendy Armstrong from the village. Refreshments for the evening were in the capable hands of Michelle Jaafar and Christine Rose. An interesting evening, praised by all those in attendance.

SUTTON APRIL CLUB: The Sutton Club met on Friday 18th at the Birches pub and Restaurant in Retford where the group gathered for lunch.  The next meeting will be as normal at Sutton Village Hall on Friday 2nd December at the usual times and on Friday 16th December the group will be visiting the Fourways Hotel Blyth where they will take Christmas Lunch together.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local association will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday 29th November at 4 Church Way Sutton at the usual time of 2:30pm.

COFFEE MORNING: The next coffee morning will be held on Saturday 10th December in the Village Hall and hosted as usual by Brian and Kathryn Seddons.

There is no admission charge on this occasion, Coffee / Tea / biscuits and cake will be available to purchase.

As we approach the festive season this coffee morning will be one with a difference and will host a few seasonal stalls situated around the hall.

These will include cards, arts and crafts and table decorations of various types to get the festive off to a good start. The Christmas Raffle will be drawn during this event.

PARISH COUNCIL:  Meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and discuss issues regarding the village.  Residents are not only welcome but also actively encouraged to participate.
