NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The local association report the following:
East Bassetlaw Neighbourhood Police Inspector Jenny Madin has taken up a new post as from last week in a management restructuring programme.
The Inspector who has been the Local Area Commander for the past 19 months will move on to manage the Response teams as opposed to the Neighbourhood Team and will still be based at Retford.
An avid supporter of Neighbourhood Watch groups in the area the Inspector was always on hand to offer advice and support when needed and often attended local association meetings, as and when staffing levels permitted. The officer will be sadly missed in East Bassetlaw especially in the rural communities.
The local association look forward to meeting and supporting Inspector Simon Pealing who replaces the present incumbent.
Bassetlaw Neighbourhood Watch are asking members to remain alert to the ongoing problem of copper wire being stolen from right across our area, telephone cables and electric cables are all being cut and stolen so keep a good look out in your area. If suspicions are aroused please report the incident, advice is available on 101 the new non-emergency number.
ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: “A Family Service” will take place at the local church on Sunday 18th December. You are invited to come along and bring the family. The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
On the third Sunday of every month the 9:30am service will be a short service suitable for adults, children and families.
The dates of the family services for the next six months are as follows: 15th January, 19th February, 18th March, 15th April, 20th May, and 17th June.
POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.
VILLAGE HALL UPDATE: The old roof tiles and felting has been removed and with only a little remedial work required, after inspection the new felt and lathes were applied. On completion of this, the new roof tiles, which arrived last Monday, were then put in place and the works were completed on Thursday afternoon just before a heavy downpour. Contractors on site took the opportunity to check the completed works and were pleased to report that no leaks were found.
The brickwork on the front and side of the hall has been dressed and upgraded where necessary and re-pointing of this area is already in progress. After a tidying up session around the hall perimeter and the removal of scaffolding the next phase will begin which includes internal alterations, plumbing and electrical work and the installation of new windows. Further updates will follow as progress is made.

VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The committee met for the last time this year on Monday night 12th December in the Village Hall.
Various items came under discussion during the evening, the main topic being the alteration work to the hall, which is taking place at present, and the committee were satisfied with the progress made so far.
The group were keen to praise the efforts of the mainstay members of the committee, namely, Angela Close (Chair) Sharon Dyson (Treasurer) Kathryn Seddon’s (Secretary) who despite being in full time employment, still find valuable time to donate to the project for the benefit of the community at large.
SUTTON APRIL CLUB: When the Sutton Club meet on Friday 16th December the group will be visiting the Fourways Hotel Blyth where they will take Christmas Lunch together. Further details available from group leader Carole Head on (01777) 705 077.
SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR W.I.: The next meeting of the group will be the Christmas Party on Wednesday 21st December at 7:15pm in the Village Hall.

ZUMBA FITNESS: Classes will re-commence on Monday 16th January 2012 at the Village Hall at the usual times of 7:00pm – 8:00pm. Come along and try to lose some of the excess baggage gained over the festive season. Telephone Sue on 07793 195 959 for further details.

Catherine held her beat surgery on Monday of this week to coincide with the regular Post Office session. The Officer was available to offer advice and assistance with any problems residents may encounter. Another beat surgery is planned in early January and villagers will be iformed in due course.
SNOW WORRIES: The Parish Council has a small stockpile of winter salt available for the coming months and as much as we would all like to have the same stockpile in spring, the last two winters would suggest otherwise. Please contact the Clerk or any Councillor if you have problems.
COFFEE MORNING: The coffee morning held on Saturday 10th December in the Village Hall turned out to be a bigger success than first anticipated.
The event was organised by regular hosts Brian and Kathryn Seddons and in a change from the normal format, a mini Christmas market, which included craft and cards, cakes and preserves and seasonal goods stalls was incorporated into the session.
The Christmas Draw or Seasonal Sweep was drawn during the day and the three main prize winners were:
(1) £100 cash prize: Mrs Bailey Church Way Sutton
(2) Xmas Hamper: Wendy Armstrong Station Road Sutton
(3) DAB Radio: Janet Webb Mattersey Road Sutton
A total of 25 prizes were won during the event which was run on behalf of the Village Hall building fund in conjunction with St.Bartholomew’s Church oil heating fund.
The total monies raised from the Christmas Draw after the usual deductions and costs incurred amounted to a sum of £350 00.which will be shared equally between the parties involved.
The coffee morning went on to raise a sum of around £600 which include the half share of the draw proceeds.
The village hall committee would like to thank everyone for their help and all those who supported the event.

MUSICIANS WANTED: The Parish Plan Steering Group is in the process of planning village celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year, which will take place over the period 2nd to 5th June 2012. One idea that has been suggested is to form a band from village musicians, if there is enough interest.
