SUTTON SPOTLIGHT: Issue no 3 of the Sutton Spotlight has now been circulated round the village. If for any reason you have not received a copy, a few spares may be available at the Village Hall. Failing this if you call 07092 985831 a copy should be forthcoming.

ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: On Saturday 24th December the Crib Service will take place at the local church at 6:00pm.

Later the same evening “Midnight Communion” will be held, when worshippers can assemble in church from 11:30pm onward.

On Sunday 25th December a “Family Service” will take place at 9:30am.

You are invited to come along and celebrate the joys of Christmas.

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.

VILLAGE HALL UPDATE: Work on the roof has now been completed ahead of schedule, and removal of the scaffolding should take place during this week. This will allow the contractors to proceed with the fixing of soffits and facia boards, before starting work inside the building.

Further updates will follow as progress is made.

POLICE: Local Beat manager for the area PC Steve Bolstridge can be contacted on Mobile: 07525 226 886 for information and advice. Alternative Police contact can be made on: 101, the new number now in use for non-emergency calls. More urgent needs may require a 999 call.

ZUMBA FITNESS: Classes will re-commence on Monday 16th January 2012 at the Village Hall at the usual times of 7:00-8:00pm.  Come along and try to lose some of the excess baggage gained over the festive season. Telephone Sue on 07793 195 959 for further details.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The local association report the following:

A message received via the ringmaster system indicates that a set of wrought iron gates, yellow in colour, were taken from a property on Station Rd. Sutton cum Lound. The incident is thought to have taken place between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm. on Wednesday 14th December. The gates had the number 16 built into the frame work. If you saw anything suspicious during that day in the area please contact your PCSO or local beat manager to report the incident.

PARISH COUNCIL:  Meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and discuss issues regarding the village. Residents are not only welcome but also actively encouraged to participate. Further details from the Clerk.

VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The Village Hall committee would like to thank Sutton Art Group for their generous donation of £80.00 raised by means of a raffle held during their recent Art Exhibition in the Village Hall. The monies received will go toward the Village Hall Building Fund and help assist the ongoing refurbishment.

District Councillor Liz Yates has also made a grant available to support the project and the upgrades taking place.

IMPROVEMENT WORKS: BARNBY MOOR AND SUTTON LEVEL CROSSING: Essential improvements works will take place at the above site on Saturday 7th January 2012 commencing at 23:45pm until Sunday 8th January 2012 at 07:00am. During these times the crossings will be closed.

Network Rail apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst this work is carried out.

BURNS NIGHT: Before Christmas and New Year Celebrations even begin, preparation for Burns Night festivities are well under way. The 10th Annual Burns Supper celebrations are scheduled to take place on Saturday 21st January 2012 in Sutton Village Hall at 7:30pm. Scotland’s most famous bard Robert Burns will be commemorated the world over in January and celebrated for the tenth time in Sutton.

Tickets for this extremely popular event went on sale on Monday the 19th December on a First come first served basis with the village circulated days previously.

Despite rising costs the tickets have been maintained at last years price of £17.50 and interested parties should contact Mavis Bradley 55, Station Road in the village as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

PARISH PLAN: The Parish Plan Steering Group are looking for volunteers to help, organise the village celebrations planned for the Queens Diamond Jubilee over the period 2nd – 5th June 2012. QUIZ NIGHT: The weekly quiz night held at the Gate Inn on Sunday evening was classed as a Christmas Quiz with a musical theme. Some questions in the mix were related to various television programmes which were hits at Christmas time over many years. The Quizmaster on this occasion was Nigel Johnson who had the task of keeping the group’s apart and seeing fair play on the night.

After a hard fought contest the winners at the end of the evening were declared as “With Brains” a regular quiz team from the village.

During the interval fun bingo was played with proceeds from this event being donated to Diabetes UK. More quiz nights are planned at the Gate and details will be announced.

MUSICIANS WANTED: The Parish Plan Steering Group is in the process of planning village celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year, which will take place (Sunday 3rd June 2012). One idea that has been suggested is to form a band from village musicians, if there is enough interest. So if you have any musical skills – singing or playing, and would like to take part in any capacity, please email your contact details to: parishplanchair@suttoncumlound.net as soon as possible.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: Would patrons please note that due to structural alterations at the Village Hall it has been decided to postpone the next meeting of the Neighbours group scheduled for January 2012 until the second Tuesday in February 2012. Residents will be reminded again nearer the time.

WHEELIE BINS: Refuse collections over the Christmas period will be as follows:

Normal collections scheduled for Tuesday 27th December 2011 will now take place on Thursday 29th December 2011. Please put blue bins out late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
