ST. BARTHOLOMEWS CHURCH: On Sunday 15th, the third Sunday in the month, “A Family Service” will take place at the local church. The service commences at 9:30am and everyone is welcome. You are invited to come along and bring the family.

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays: 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.

VILLAGE HALL UPDATE: A slight delay in proceedings for the builders who were due to start work on Tuesday after the break.  A late delivery of materials meant Stage two of the project which should have seen the fixing of the soffitts and facia boards taking place before contractors moved inside to address the internal alterations was delayed.

The materials eventually arrived but very late in the day. The workforce increased their efforts and completed the next stage on time, and internal workings have now commenced and hopefully everything is back on track.

HELP REQUIRED: PCSO Catherine Phillips requires help with a dwelling burglary which took place on Portland Place, Sutton on Tuesday 3rd January 2012 between the hours of 3:00pm and 5:00pm. Offenders gained entry through the kitchen door of the property and took keys to a black Honda Civic type R GT which were left in the kitchen and stole the vehicle. Please be aware that the owner of the property and the vehicle were at the home address at the time.

If anyone has seen or heard anything in relation to this incident, they are asked to contact the PCSO on mobile 07525 409 789 or on the new non-emergency number 101 quoting incident number 000586 03012012.

Please remember, leaving doors and windows unlocked is an open invitation to thieves. Villagers are asked to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious.

ZUMBA FITNESS: Classes will re-commence on Monday 16th January 2012 at the Village Hall at the usual time of 7:00-8:00pm.

For one night only Sue will also be giving a free session of body balancing from 8:00pm to 8:45pm. So,, keep those New Year resolutions and go along and join the fun!

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The local association will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday 31st January 2012, at the usual time of 2:30pm.

At the last meeting Councillor Yates reported that in various areas elderly residents had been targeted by rogue traders. She requested that villagers be furnished with a contact number for Trading Standards officers who can offer help and advice on all kinds of consumer issues.

This is done by contacting Consumer Direct on 0845 040 506 who after having ascertained your post code will direct your call to the appropriate destination.

The Trading Standards office can only be accessed through Consumer Direct.

When the one stop shop in the market square was approached, despite being helpful and polite the same answer was forthcoming: most of the outreach offices for the Trading Standards have been closed. Whilst our area was previously under the Newark and district we are now attached to the Mansfield area but again only accessible via Consumer Direct.

PARISH COUNCIL:  Meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and discuss issues regarding the village. Residents are not only welcome but also actively encouraged to participate. Further details from the Clerk.

VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: After securing a grant in excess of £45,000 from WREN, the Village Hall Committee has approached various agencies with a view to securing further funding toward the building work taking place.

The group are pleased to announce that North Notts Lions have agreed to sponsor further improvements to the venue by way of a donation of £500 towards the installation of new windows. Grateful thanks go to the Lions for this kind gesture, and for all the charitable help and support given to other groups and associations within the community.

Further help was obtained by way of a grant from District Councillor Mrs Liz Yates who also sponsored a window for the project.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: Would the members of the Sutton and Barnby Moor WI please note that their meeting scheduled for Wednesday 18th January at 7:15pm will now be held at Barnby Moor Village Hall. The usual venue at Sutton Village Hall is unavailable due to internal alterations taking place.

This change will apply for the January meeting only and things will revert back to normal for the meeting in February.

DON’T FORGET: The previous non-emergency number for calling the Police 0300 300 99 99 ceased to function as from last Monday 9th January 2012. All non emergency calls are now 101. For more serious incidents a 999 call may be required.

PARISH PLAN: The Parish Plan Steering Group are looking for volunteers to help, organise the village celebrations planned for the Queens Diamond Jubilee over the period 2nd – 5th June 2012. SURGERY: The PCSO for the area 4735 Catherine Phillips will hold her monthly surgery on Monday 16th January at the same time as the Post Office session in the Village Hall. If you have any issues or concerns you think the officer may be able to help with, please call in during the session.

QUIZ NIGHT: Sunday night at the Gate Inn saw the first quiz night of the New Year take place. In the absence of regular quiz master John Jones, who is ill at present, Brian Seddon’s took the chair. Still a very tough quiz, with some very good answers forthcoming. In every competition there has to be winners and losers and at the end of the evening Team Garryless were declared the winners.

Another quiz is scheduled for next Sunday at the Gate starting at 9:00pm.

SUTTON APRIL CLUB: The Sutton Club will hold its first meeting of the New Year on Friday 13th January in Sutton Village Hall at the usual starting time of 2:00pm. The group finished last year on a high, which culminated in members joining together a Christmas meal at the Fourways Hotel Blyth.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: Would patrons please note that due to internal alterations at the Village Hall it has been decided to postpone the next meeting of the Neighbours group scheduled for January 2012 until the second Tuesday in February. Residents will be reminded again nearer the time.

WHEELIE BINS: Residents are reminded that green bins should be put out for collection late on Monday night (16th) or early Tuesday morning.
