BROADBAND SERVICES: Broadband is an essential resource for modern life, important for business, schools and domestic access to commercial and public services.
Bassetlaw has the lowest level of Broadband availability in Nottinghamshire, putting local residents and businesses in rural areas at a distinct disadvantage.
Local councillor Mrs Liz Yates has taken up the case on behalf of local residents and is calling upon Notts County Council to do all it can to improve the availability of Broadband in this district by accepting the Government’s offer of £4.25million. With match funding from the County Council and the seven borough and district councils in Nottinghamshire, including Bassetlaw, this could improve the service greatly.
Your councillor has organised a petition urging the County Council to do all in its power to bring about these improvements to Bassetlaw. This petition will demonstrate the number of households affected by poor reception, so names and addresses are required on the petition.

ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: “Morning Prayer” will be the order of service at the local church on Sunday 4th March. The service commences at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.
VILLAGE HALL UPDATE: Work continues at the Village Hall and this week should see the fitting of the over boarding to the framework of the lowered ceiling. New lighting installation is up and working and the heating is proving to be working successfully and somewhat quieter than the old system.
More internal workings will take place as soon as the ceiling project is completed.

CAN YOU HELP?: Raise money for your charity by collecting empty ink cartridges.
Please collect as many ink cartridges as possible from neighbours, co-workers and family. Bring the cartridges to your charity and place them in the recycling box which, by kind permission of Mrs Pick, will be sited in the village store, or ring the Village Hall number if collection is required: 07092 985 831.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The local association held their monthly meeting on Tuesday 28th February at the usual time of 2:30pm and a full report will follow next week.

PLAY FACILITIES: Some items of the selected play equipment arrived at the Village Hall grounds last week and have been installed in position. The remaining items should be in place sometime this week.

IDLE VALLEY SOCIETY: When the Society next meet, on Wednesday 6th March 2012, Don Witton will be the invited speaker. The title of his address will be “Walking with Flowers”.

ZUMBA CLASSES: In a bid to increase attendance numbers and reach a broad spectrum of age groups, Zumba classes have been suspended for the time being and local organiser and instructor Kelly has devised a new programme “Fitness for All”.
Probably not as hectic as the Zumba regime, but will keep members active during the session and help retain the feel-good factor. Suitable for age groups 18 plus and held on the usual Monday night slot from 7:00pm – 8:00pm in Sutton Village Hall and with the cost remaining at only £4.00 per session, now is the time to get fit for summer.

BIRD SCARERS IN SUTTON: In recent weeks several complaints have been received about the noise of bird scarers in the village. The department of Environmental Health was contacted and diary sheets were issued to complainants but unfortunately only one completed sheet was returned. District councillor Mrs Yates followed up this issue on behalf of residents, after further investigations feed back indicates that more than one device may be operating in the vicinity.

SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR WI: The next meeting of the Sutton and Barnby Moor WI will take place on Wednesday 21st March at 7:15pm.
This will be the group’s Annual General meeting and buffet supper.
During the evening a ballot for Committee, Financial Report, Annual Report, Nominations and ballot for President will take place. Visitors and new members always welcome.
