GET SUTTON BUZZING: Develop your garden for a chance to support Sutton in the East Midlands in Bloom Competition! Local man David Mowthorpe is currently looking for help and support in Sutton cum Lound’s entry into the East Midlands in Bloom 2012 competition (EMIB).

To help the village’s entry the Parish Council is offering free seeds to the village community to develop wild flower gardens in order to encourage wildlife and improve local biodiversity.

The Church, Pick’s General Store, the Gate Inn, the School, the Village Hall Committee and the Parish Plan Steering Group have already expressed their interest and support and are looking for participants from the village to join in and Get Sutton Buzzing.

ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: The service at the local church on Sunday 11th March is a “Sung Eucharist”. The service commences at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings. 

POLICE: Local Beat manager for the area PC Steve Bolstridge can be contacted on Mobile: 07525 226 886 for information and advice. Alternative Police contact can be made on: 101 the new number now in use for non-emergency calls. More urgent needs may require a 999 call.

CAN YOU HELP?: Raise money for your charity by collecting empty ink cartridges.

Please collect as many ink cartridges as possible from neighbours, co-workers and family.

Bring the cartridges to your charity and place them in the recycling box which, by kind permission of Mrs Pick, will be sited in the village store, or ring the Village Hall number if collection required: 07092 985 831.

PARISH COUNCIL: Meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and discuss issues regarding the village. Residents are not only welcome but also actively encouraged to participate.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The local association held their monthly meeting on Tuesday 28th February as scheduled at the usual time of 2:30pm.

The chairman Harry Hopkins was pleased to welcome new committee member Nigel Johnson to the meeting. Various matters were raised during the afternoon including Councillor Liz Yates request for villagers to have access to Trading Standards Departments.   This is a safeguard for residents, many having been targeted by Rogue Traders and cowboy builders in the rural communities.

The “Speedwatch” scheme was also raised at this meeting; members were concerned about the speed of vehicles in the village. It was understood that the Parish Council were dealing with this matter.

PLAY FACILITIES: Workmen have been busy this week in the Village Hall grounds as they continue to install the remainder of the play equipment selected for the enjoyment of the younger people in the village. Rubber matting is being installed around the units to help prevent any injuries from trips or falls when the items are in use.

SUTTON APRIL CLUB: The Sutton club will meet on Friday 9th March at the usual time in the Village Hall.

PARISH PLAN: The Parish Plan Steering Group are looking for volunteers to help, organise the village celebrations planned for the Queens Diamond Jubilee over the period 2nd – 5th June 2012. SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR WI: The next meeting of the Sutton and Barnby Moor WI will take place on Wednesday 21st March at 7:15pm.

This will be the group’s Annual General meeting and buffet supper.

During the evening, a ballot for Committee, Financial Report, Annual Report, Nominations and ballot for President will take place.   Visitors and new members always welcome.

WHEELIE BINS: Residents are reminded that green bins should be put out for collection late on Monday night 12th March or early Tuesday morning.
