ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: Sunday 18th March is “Mothering Sunday” and a service will be held in the local church to mark the occasion. This will be part of the normal Family Service which takes part on the day. The service commences at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.

Card Fraud Telephone Scam
The UK Cards Association is advising customers to be aware of a new variation on an old style scam that involves people being telephoned by fraudsters and duped into handing over their debit or credit card, and revealing their PIN. How does the scam happen?
A fraudster rings you, claiming to be from your bank, saying their systems have spotted a fraudulent payment on your card or that your card is due to expire and needs replacing. You may be asked to ring back using the phone number on the back of your card – which further convinces you the call is genuine. However, the criminal keeps the line open at their end so, when you make the call, you are unknowingly connected straight back to the fraudster .Then by seeming to offer assistance, the fraudster tries to gain your trust. In most cases you are asked to ‘cancel’ your existing card or ‘activate’ or authorise’ a replacement card by keying your PIN into your phone’s hand set. The fraudster then poses as a bank representative to pick up your card from your home, sometimes giving you a replacement card, which is a fake. In some cases a genuine courier company is hired to pick up the card, which the victim has been asked to place into an envelope. Once they have your card and PIN the fraudster uses them to spend your money.
A variation of the scam involves the fraudster ringing a prospective victim and claiming to be from the police – again with the aim of going to the victim’s home to collect the card and PIN.
What can I do to avoid this scam? Remember this advice: Your bank or the police will NEVER ring you and tell you that they are coming to your home to pick up your card, so never hand it over to anyone who comes to collect it. Your bank will NEVER ask you to authorise anything by entering your PIN into the telephone. NEVER share your PIN with anyone – the only times you should use your PIN is at a cash machine or when you use a shop’s chip and PIN machine.
What should I do if I think I may have been the victim of a fraud or scam? If you think you have been the victim of a fraud or scam of this nature you should call your bank or card company immediately.
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: There was no meeting of the neighbours group last Tuesday, due to contractors plastering the new lowered ceiling in the Village Hall.
Hopefully things will be back to normal for the second Tuesday in April, when you can call in and “Meet the Neighbours”.
CAN YOU HELP?: Raise money for your charity by collecting empty ink cartridges.
Please collect as many ink cartridges as possible from neighbours, co-workers and family.
Bring the cartridges to your charity and place them in the recycling box which by kind permission of Mrs Pick will be sited in the village store. There is also a drop-off box in the Village Hall, or ring the Village Hall number if collection required. : 07092 985 831.
The first lot of cartridges have been dispatched and a payment should be forthcoming shortly.
AND THE BAND PLAYED ON: Once again the residents of Sutton and their friends will have the opportunity to be entertained by the Doncaster Salvation Army Band and Songsters.
The event is scheduled to take place on Friday 16th March at 7:30pm in church.
Refreshments will be available, a raffle will take place and a retiring collection will be taken.
On a previous visit the event was well supported, it is hoped it will be on this occasion.
PLAY FACILITIES: Work continues in the Village Hall grounds as contractors continue to install the remainder of the play equipment selected for the enjoyment of the younger people in the village. Rubber matting has now been installed around the units to help prevent any injuries from trips or falls when the items are in use.

CUP AND CHATTER: The Idle Valley walking group held their Cup and Chatter session on Monday afternoon (12th March ) at the Citrus Café at the Retford and Gainsboro’ Garden Centre.
After tea and snacks the group tried their hand at a small quiz during the afternoon.
The quiz winner on this occasion was Fiona Pagdin. Congratulations!

IDLE VALLEY SOCIETY: “Walking with Flowers” was the title of the latest presentation on offer to the society members when they met on Tuesday 6th March at 7:30pm. in Barnby Moor Village Hall.
Don Witton was the speaker on the night and the group were taken on a magical tour of the following places. Tenerife, Slovenia, Spain, Cyprus, Crete. The Canadian Rockies, New Zealand, Cape Provinces of South Africa were visited before moving to greater heights in the Pyrenees, the Alps and finally back to good old England. The talk accompanied by wonderful photography of the views of the countries and the flowers and shrubs found there were gratefully appreciated by the gathering.
On completion of the talk Chairman Adrian Blackburn gave the customary vote of thanks.
