COFFEE MORNING: The next Coffee Morning is scheduled to take place at the Village Hall on Saturday 14th April 2012 from 10:30am until 12:30pm. A £2.00 cover charge will get you coffee, cake and an instant win raffle ticket, with all proceeds going to the Village Hall Building Fund.
ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: Sunday 1st April is “Palm Sunday” and a service of “Morning Prayer” will be held the local church. The service commences at 9:30am and everyone welcome.
POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village hHll will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.
POLICE: Local Beat manager for the area PC Steve Bolstridge can be contacted on Mobile: 07525 226 886 for information and advice. Alternative Police contact can be made on: 101 the new number now in use for non-emergency calls. More urgent needs may require a 999 call.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The local association held their monthly meeting on Tuesday 27th March at the usual time of 2:30pm. The venue on this occasion was 55 Station Road in the village. A full report will follow next week.
CAN YOU HELP?: Raise money for your charity by collecting empty ink cartridges.
Please collect as many ink cartridges as possible from neighbours, co-workers and family.
Bring the cartridges to your charity and place them in the recycling box which by kind permission of Mrs Pick will be sited in the village store. Alternatively you can use the bin in the Village Hall porch or telephone the Village Hall number if collection is required. : 07092 985 831.
The first lot of cartridges have been dispatched and a payment should be forthcoming shortly.
PLAY FACILITIES: Work seems to be completed on the installation of various pieces of play equipment based behind the Village Hall. A final Health and Safety audit is required before the play area can be officially declared open. Children being children have already been on site to cast their eyes over their new play facilities and eagerly await the official opening of the equipment which will match facilities found in other villages in the surrounding area.
The local Beat Manager and the PCSO for the village have also visited the play area and have spoken to some of the younger members of the community. It is their intention to call on regular basis when on patrol in the village.
The play area has been installed due to a joint effort by Notts County Councils Local Improvement schemes. The Parish Plan Steering Group (who secured the funding) and The Village Hall Committee (who agreed the use of the land).

DOOR STEP CALLERS: Despite householders displaying notices supplied by the local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme informing callers that the resident does not wish to buy items at the door they are still being approached by people door-stepping for various products or services.
In a recent incident on Station Road, householders were suspicious when two men were looking round the property without the owners consent and unknown to the residents. When questions were asked they made excuses and left and called at properties further down the street.
The residents called the Police, who promptly arrived but a search of the area and surrounding villages proved fruitless. Residents are advised to be careful when answering the door to uninvited callers. Carry out all the usual checks, ask as many questions as possible, asked for ID cards and scrutinise them, don’t allow entry, if concerned lock your door and call the Police.
Better safe than sorry!

IDLE VALLEY SOCIETY: The Society will meet on Tuesday 3rd April 2012 at Barnby Moor Village at the usual time of 7:30pm. The speaker on this occasion will be local man Mike Vickers. Mike is no stranger to the group and on previous visits has spoken about “WILD SPAIN” and on another told us about TRINIDAD and TOBAGO which is amongst his topics from a large and varied repertoire.

SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR WI: The ladies of Sutton and Barnby Moor WI met as arranged on Wednesday 21st March at 7:15pm. President Jackie Payne read out the official notices before proceeding with the groups AGM. As no nominations were received for Committee the present Committee were re-elected en-bloc.
The present Committee is as follows: Jackie Payne (President), Fiona Pagdin (Vice President), Michelle Jaaffar (Secretary), Barbara Jackson (Treasurer), Pauline Marsh, Monica Hockinhull, Mavis Bradley, and Val Moore (Committee Members).
The competition Cup was won on this occasion by Sally Palmer, the draw for the bi-annual bursary was won by Mavis Bradley. A small quiz then took place, before the buffet was declared open.
Member Val Moore brought along various plants for sale which raised the sum of £10.00 on the night which is destined for the charity “Water Aid”. Thanks to all for supporting the event, which turned out to be a very enjoyable evening.
At the April meeting the speaker will be Mrs Maureen Beecher on the subject of scrap booking.
