ELECTION DAY: With The date for the forthcoming election of Parish Councillors looming even closer, Thursday 3rd May 2012, it would appear at this early stage that all nine places available on the Council are being contested for the first time in many years.
In previous years Parish Council elections, the vacancies failed to attract a full quota of nominations.
SUTTON APRIL CLUB: The Sutton club will meet as usual on Friday 20th April in the village hall at the usual time of 2:00pm.
COFFEE MORNING: The Coffee Morning held on Saturday 14th April was once again a well attended event. Hosts Bryan and Kathryn Seddons were on hand to meet and greet villagers and friends as they arrived. Those attending were soon enjoying coffee and cakes and socialising in convivial company. A few visitors were lucky winners in the instant raffle, which is included in the entrance fee.
During the morning a “Litter Pick” took place around the area with lots of black bags being filled on the day. Pickers were then offered tea and hot food after a hard mornings work. Well done all!
SUTTON ART GROUP: The group will meet as usual on Friday mornings and will continue throughout the season. Further details available from Joan Reiter on 01777 702 137 or Margaret Beare on 01777 704 836.
PARISH PLAN: Plans are already in the making for the forthcoming celebrations and the Parish Plan Steering Group are still looking for offers of help to organise the village celebrations planned for the Queens Diamond Jubilee over the period 2nd – 5th June 2012.

VILLAGE SPEEDWATCH: Concerns have been voiced over the speed of vehicles both within and passing through the village. Some years ago a system was set up in the village to allow residents to operate their own Speedwatch system complete with speed gun, after full training had been given.
Due to changes in Police personnel and internal restructuring plus unavailability of equipment the system failed to get off the ground at that time. The system is being operated successfully in neighbouring villages that have issues with speeding and is manned by volunteers.
If you have concerns with the speeding issue and can spare a couple of hours per month, you can assist your local Parish Council by volunteering your services that could ultimately save lives.
Would ideally suit retired people, male or female who care about Road safety in the village. The sooner volunteers come forward the sooner the scheme can be up and running.
Further details are available from the Clerk to the Council on 01777 948 320.
QUIZ NIGHT: Another successful quiz night at the local hostelry on Sunday week, in fact almost a full house on this occasion, as the event gathers momentum each week.
With the option of cash prizes or a Mystery prize on offer, it’s all to play for.
Winners on Easter Sunday night were a local team, 2shy who opted on the night to take the cash prize on offer. Congratulations!
The Quizmaster on this occasion was landlord Andy Barney. The venue will host another quiz on Sunday next, with the usual starting time of 9:00pm.
VILLAGE HALL UPDATE: With the lowered ceiling now completed, contractors have now started work on the installation of windows to the venue. The first of two French windows and a fire door are already in place and work continues with further windows progessing.
User groups in the hall over the past few weeks are most impressed with the progress made so far and are looking forward to further works being completed.
Further updates will follow when available.
