VILLAGE VENTURES: Sutton Village Hall was buzzing on Saturday night (12th May) when Eddie and the Gold Tops appeared live on stage. A near full capacity audience were fully entertained for the evening when they revisited the sixties courtesy of the would be pop star Eddie, accompanied by his Gold Tops, who wanted to exchange his milk float for the cream of the pop charts.

A number one hit for the Badapple Theatre Company and another success for Village Ventures productions in Sutton.

ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH:   The service at the local church on Sunday 20th May will be a “Family Service”. Please come along and bring the family. The service commences at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: Tuesday 15th May was the night the local association held their AGM in the Village Hall. This year is the local associations 15th year in existence and all under the jurisdiction of chairman and head coordinator Harry Hopkins who with like-minded residents set up the scheme. A full report will follow next week.

2012 DISTRICT ELECTIONS: Sutton welcomes a new District Councillor after the elections held on Thursday 3rd May in the Retford area wards. Conservative Tracy Taylor was successful in retaining the seat formerly held by Councillor Liz Yates since 2003.   Tracy polled 340 votes in her campaign, whilst her rival Labour candidate Tony Brown polled 163.

SUTTON ART GROUP: The group will meet as usual on Friday mornings and will continue throughout the season. Further details available from Joan Reiter on 01777 702 137 or Margaret Beare on 01777 704 836.

VILLAGE SPEEDWATCH: Volunteers are still required to assist in the manning of the village Speedwatch set up. Interested parties should contact Sutton Parish Council via the Parish Clerk: Nigel Johnson: clerk@suttoncumlound.net or 01777 948 320 for further details.

IDLE VALLEY SOCIETY: The Idle valley society held their cup and chatter meeting on Monday afternoon at the tearooms of the Tuxford Windmill on Sibthorpe Hill.

On completion of a round of cream teas in the café members then had the opportunity to take a guided tour round the mill to see it in action. The miller was on hand to answer any questions raised during the visit. Members then purchased flour and oats from the venue completing an enjoyable afternoon outing.

PARISH COUNCIL: The village now has a new Parish Council, when all nine available seats were contested at last Thursday’s meeting, only two former councillors deciding not to re–stand prevented local elections taking place for vacancies on the Parish Council.

The new Parish Council now consists of: Martin Rees (Chair) Angela Close (Vice Chair) supported by councillors: John Gough, Andy Close, Karen Foster, Jenny Bailey, Mavis Bradley, Sharon Dyson and David Mowthorpe. Nigel Johnson is clerk to the council.

WHEELIE BINS: Residents are reminded that green bins should be put out for collection late on Monday night 21st May or early Tuesday morning.
