New salt barn at Gamston as County Council gets set for winter
The nights are drawing in rapidly, Christmas decorations are already appearing in shops – and Nottinghamshire County Council is busy preparing for winter.
Leaving nothing to chance, the Council has invested in a new 650 square metre salt barn at its Gamston highways depot just outside Nottingham and invested around £500,000 in this and other facilities this year.
Once filled, the new barn will mean that the County Council has more salt stockpiled in the county than ever before – some 12,000 tonnes more than official government recommendations – putting Nottinghamshire in a strong position for dealing with the worst winter conditions.
The new Gamston barn joins the Council’s three other barns – which are already full to the brim with salt – and means that around 18,000 tonnes of salt in the county will be safely stored under cover.
