The Parish Council is pleased to invite all residents to the lighting of the village Christmas tree at 5:30pm on Saturday 1st December on the small green opposite Pick’s General Store. Jane and Mark Pick will be generously providing the mulled wine and mince pies as the community kicks off the festive season in style.
Reverend Sue Caddy will say a few words, followed by traditional carols from Harworth Brass Band with involvement from the children of Sutton cum Lound CoE Primary School. Unlike the Jubilee celebrations, we don’t have the full band this time but given their ability and reputation this is hardly likely to be a problem. We’re very grateful that they have agreed to come and play for us once again. This time we’re hoping the weather will be a bit less on the damp side. So, tune up your voices for a good sing-along and come along and join us.
In 2011 the Parish Council funded a memorial plaque alongside the Christmas tree to the memory of Peter Roberts who served as Clerk to the Council for 16 years. One of his last projects for the village was to organise the permanent power supply to our the green. This was to enable the village to have its first ever illuminated Christmas tree. Sadly, he never saw the lights go on.
