MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: When the neighbour’s team met in the Village Hall on Tuesday 13th November as scheduled, despite holidays and the usual seasonal illnesses, the turn out was quite good. Many had turned out, not only to Meet The Neighbours, but to say farewell to a popular member of the Safer Neighbourhoods Local Beat Team for our area PCSO 4735 Catherine Phillips who leaves the job she loves so well, to commence maternity leave.

Villagers were sad to lose such a valued member of the community who for the past two years, has served the village well and was instantly recognised by the residents, as she carried out her monthly surgeries held in the Village Hall. These were carried out to coincide with the Local Post Office opening times and gave the officer the chance to meet many of the villagers on a one to one basis as and when shift rotas and working practices allowed.

Her visits to the local school and her patch-walk patrols accompanied by former Beat Manager PC Chris Glover were also noted and gave the village an added sense of security when a uniform presence was seen in the area.

PCSO Dave Airey will cover Catherine’s patch until further notice, and PC Alan Johnson continues as Local Beat Manager for the area.

KELLY J FITNESS: “Fitness for All”, classes are held in the village hall every Monday evening.

A fully qualified personal trainer and fitness instructor is on hand to put members through their paces with exercises tailored to suit individual needs. More classes next Monday night at 6:45pm.

SUTTON ART GROUP: The Art Groups Annual Exhibition took place on Saturday 17th November in the Village Hall from 11:00am – 4:00pm. Members present had over 100 exhibits on display on the day and with a higher turn out than previous times, and a good selection of paintings offered for sale business was brisk as visitors cast a their eye over the exhibits, hoping to find something appealing which in years to come may prove to be valuable.

Everybody was made welcome and with free admission and refreshments available throughout the session, the event proved to be a good day out for many. Visitors were amazed by the high standard of works submitted by the class

On Friday 23rd November from 10:00am – 3:00pm the group will be busy again as they continue with their weekly class which on this occasion will consist of a one-day workshop. Tutor Sean Coope will instruct and demonstrate the art of Pencil Drawing and will assist and advise where necessary.

New Perspectives Theatre Company recreates that first reading – the perfect way to experience his original heart-warming, spine-tingling Christmas story.

AWARD FOR LOCAL MAN: Sutton cum Lound resident Harry Hopkins was pleasantly surprised last Tuesday 13th November when he attended the Meet the Neighbours Group along with other residents to say thank you and goodbye to PCSO Catherine Phillips.

Amongst the well wishers on the day was Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for East Bassetlaw Neil Bellamy, who besides supporting the PCSO had another function to perform on the day.

The Inspector was pleased to present Harry Hopkins with a certificate for his outstanding efforts in running the Local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme from October 1997 to the present date.

Harry founded the present scheme, and has been Chairman and head coordinator since 1999 and with support from various agencies and villagers as a whole including financial support from Sutton Parish Council, the scheme has gone from strength to strength with approximately 200 0f the 300 houses in the village registered. A previous attempt to form a local group by well meaning residents failed, mainly due to lack of interest.

The Local Beat team who work closely with the group were present to see Harry receive his award and County Councillor Liz Yates and District Councillor Tracey Taylor were also in attendance at the event.
