SUTTON ART GROUP: After a very successful exhibition that took place on Saturday 17th November in the Village Hall from 11:00am – 4:00pm, it will be back to the drawing board for the local group when they meet on Friday.

Following the annual event, and after reviewing their finances, the group have decided to make a generous donation to the Village Hall funds. This will enable the Village Hall Committee to progress to another level as they attempt to put the final touches to the hall.

The Village Hall Committee would like to thank the art group for the donation and for their support in general over many years which is beneficial to the community as a whole, and will help provide a village hall to be proud of for years to come.

The group meet as usual on Friday mornings in the Village Hall and will continue throughout the season. Now is a good time to get your name on the waiting list in order to join the regulars as they pursue this ever increasing popular pastime.

ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: “Morning Prayer” will be held on Sunday 2nd December 2012 at the local church. The service starts at the usual time of 9:30am and everybody is welcome.

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm.  The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local association met on Tuesday 27th November and the following items came under discussion. Report on Bassetlaw Neighbourhood Watch meeting held on Thursday 22nd November at Retford Town Hall by Harry Hopkins, chairman and head coordinator of the local scheme.

KELLY J FITNESS:  “Fitness for All”, classes took place in the village hall on Monday evening.

A fully qualified personal trainer and fitness instructor was on hand to put members through their paces with exercises tailored to suit individual needs. This gave members the chance to shed a few pounds before the start of the Christmas festivities.

More classes next Monday night at 6:45pm in the Village Hall.

PARISH COUNCIL: Villagers are reminded the tree lighting ceremony will take place on Saturday 1st December at 5:30pm on the small village green, by kind invitation of the Parish Council.

Reverend Sue Caddy will say a few words followed by traditional carols from Harworth Brass Band with involvement from the children of Sutton cum Lound School.

Picks General Store has generously agreed to add to the festivities with traditional minced pies and mulled wine is available to those who can attend.   It is hoped villagers will support the event.

VILLAGE VENTURES: Some tickets are still available for the next production in the Village Ventures series, “A Christmas Carol”. In 1853, Charles Dickens took to the stage for the first time to read from a Christ Carol, in a series of readings that would include extracts from many of his most famous works. New Perspectives Theatre Company recreates that first reading – the perfect way to experience his original heart-warming, spine-tingling Christmas story.

COUNTY COUNCILLOR: Mrs Liz Yates, County Councillor for the area is available at any reasonable time on 01777 860 219 to deal with any issues you may have.

SUTTON SPOTLIGHT: Issue number 8 of the Sutton Spotlight should be landing on your doorstep any day now. If this is not the case please be patient, as the delivery is done by a group of willing volunteers.

Early comments once again are favourable, with a great lay-out and up to date information in the publication, which is funded by the Parish Council and produced by an army of volunteers.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: When the members of the group met on Wednesday 21st November in Sutton Village Hall, Dawn Cragg MBE was the speaker for the evening. The talk accompanied b a slide show outlined the use of make-up and tattoo pigments to help camouflage scar tissue, birth marks, plus hair replacement treatments and to provide eyebrows and eye lines for sufferers of Alopecia.

The results have given many people a boost to their confidence and helped them face the world again without total embarrassment. A very informative talk, enjoyed by those present.

Another highlight of the evening was the attendance of Sally Palmer who has been a long standing member and has celebrated 60 years as a WI member. Congratulations.!!

Sally was presented with a small token gift to mark the occasion.
