As the big event draws nearer, many people will be out partying this weekend – please take a moment to read the information below to keep yourself and your belongings safe. Make your celebrations memorable for the right reasons.
If you are out for the evening:
- Ensure someone knows where you are going and when you will be home.
- Always plan how you will get home before going out. Keep bus/taxi money separate from your purse to ensure that you can still get home if you lose your purse.
- Don’t leave bags over the back of your chair and keep purses, phones and wallets close to you.
- Drink responsibly staying in groups and never accept a drink from a stranger or leave a drink unattended. Think! Don’t drink and drive.
- Always check taxi drivers identification and never get into an unlicensed taxi. Remember mini cabs are not permitted to pick up fares without pre-booking.
- When arriving home by taxi or car have your keys ready.
- Never walk home alone and don’t take short-cuts through dark alleys or large open spaces.
- If you are being followed, cross the street – if necessary criss-cross. If you are still being followed run into the busiest place that you can find and raise the alarm.
- If you are being followed by a car, turn around and walk back the other way. The car will have to turn around and will be on the other side of the street.
- In an emergency always dial 999
- For non emergencies and all other enquiries call 101
Remember, your safety and well being is far more important than material belongings. Don’t compromise your safety for a mobile phone or other valuable item.
