The countdown to Christmas day is officially on and I am sure most of you are looking forward to settling down over the Christmas period with family and friends. Please be mindful though in the run up to the big day, which is hectic to say the least for most of us, criminals will be looking to take advantage of any vulnerability!
Tackling Burglary
Look out for your neighbours day and night. If you know people in your community are away this Christmas keep an eye on their property for them and let us know if you see anything or anyone suspicious. Likewise, if you are going away, get friends or family to visit your property on a regular basis.
If you intend to leave the house and celebrate this Christmas Eve please ensure you are not leaving any valuable items on display, this includes presents under the tree. Use timer switches on your lights and utilise any alarms/CCTV systems you may have. Speak with your neighbours that you trust and if they are staying in ask them to keep an eye on your property. The aim is to make criminals think twice before targeting your property.
Tackling Vehicle Crime
Please ensure you remove all belongings from your vehicle when you are leaving it unattended, do not be tempted to leave presents or any other valuable items such as sat navs, mobile phones, bags etc on display. Remember it only takes a minute for an opportunist criminal to ruin your Christmas.
Tackling Anti Social Behaviour
The last thing any of us want at Christmas is to put up with Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) in our community however it is the season to be merry – for most! Please report any ASB to us and local officers conducting ASB patrols on a dedicated operation over the Christmas period will do what they can to attend and help.
Please report all suspicious activity to us using 101 and in an emergency call 999. Alternatively you can pass information anonymously using the Crimestoppers number of 0800 555 111.
