CHRISTMAS MARKET: The Christmas Market held on Saturday 8th December, which incorporated the usual coffee morning and craft market was a well attended event.

As well as the village faithful, a large number of visitors were also in attendance.

An array of well presented stalls were available as visitors viewed the goods on offer, many seasonal items being snapped up on the day. Stalls included cakes and preserves, cards and crafts, wine or water, Xmas fayre hampers and the favourite Tombola stall. The last few draw tickets were sold at the event as visitors surveyed the major prizes on show.

Teas and coffees, with cakes and biscuits on offer, competing with the much sought after Mulled Wine and mince pies helped promote the festive season as the crowd socialised for the afternoon.

The Seasonal Sweep Draw took place later in the day with two of the three main prizes being won in the village. The first prize of £100 cash was won by Carole Head, with the second prize of a luxury food hamper being won by a Village Hall supporter from outside the village. A selection of quality wines being the third main prize was won by local lady Anne Doughty.

Congratulation to these and all our other winners, your support is much appreciated.

All prizes were claimed or allocated on the day.

A full list of prize winners will be posted throughout the village.

Thanks must go to the organisers (Village Hall Committee) and friends, and all who supported the event in any way, for making it the success it turned out to be.

The total revenue raised is near the set target of £1,000 which is destined for Village Hall funds and will be confirmed when all invoices are to hand.

County Councillor Liz Yates was in attendance to support the event.

VILLAGE VENTURES: The Xmas festivities continued last Thursday night in the Village Hall when old friends New Perspectives Theatre came to perform, and perform they did!

This one man show (aided by lighting and props staff) held the audience spell bound as the Story of a Christmas Carol unfolded before them. An almost word perfect performance without notes, scripts or prompting was gratefully appreciated by an almost capacity crowd.

Approximately a one hour act in the first half left the people present wanting more, and after a twenty minute break during which the audience were treated to mulled wine and mince pies, the actor returned to continue his tale for another half hour.

A standing ovation at the end showed the strength of the audiences feeling for this outstanding performance, one of the better presentations in the village ventures series.
