Don’t leave an open door for burglars as the days become lighter.
As the sun is shining for longer in the approach to Spring don’t be complacent about home security – it is something criminals count on.
Leaving doors and windows open to air out your home should only be done in rooms that are occupied. Even if you can see what is going on outside, make sure doors and windows are locked when you are out or in another part of the house.
And outbuildings and sheds will begin to see the light of day more but it is just as important as in the winter months to keep them locked when you are out of sight.
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said: Burglaries don’t just happen at night they take place during day time and in the early evening. Residents can help us by remaining vigilant and security conscious.
“Keep an eye out for your neighbours and report any unusual behaviour. You might want to consider installing a burglar alarm if you don’t have one already.”
To report suspicious activity, call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number of 0800 555 111.
