Metal theft is a problem both nationally and internationally owing to the current high scrap value. This stolen metal is being transported around the country daily and it is our intention within this operation to proactively engage within the scrap industry to attempt to curb the elements of criminal practice.
A multi agency enforcement operation was carried out on Wednesday 13th February at two checkpoints in Bassetlaw, one on the A57 Worksop by-pass and a second at Blyth services off the A1. The operation involved a number of partner agencies including the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).
A number of vehicles and their drivers were dealt with for a variety of offences and a number of vehicles were removed from the road and prevented from driving any further due to their dangerous condition.
A number of scrap dealers were also visited throughout the operation.
Nottinghamshire Police are working closely with our partner agencies to reduce metal theft and future similar operations are being planned.
Anyone with any information regarding such matters is urged to contact the police on 101 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number of 0800 555111.
