PARISH COUNCIL: Sutton cum Lound’s Annual Parish Meeting will take place in the Village Hall on Thursday 25th April at 7:00pm.
There will be a review of the past year by the representatives from the following:
St Bartholomew’s Church, Sutton cum Lound C of E School, Village Hall Trustees, Police, Local Farmers, Parish Plan Steering Group, your District and Parish Councils. Light refreshments will be served on the night.
When the Council last met on Wednesday 10th April, those present were: The Chairman, Vice Chair and five councillors and the clerk to the council, with two apologies offered on the night.
A crowd of approximately 20 members of the public were in attendance. The group had come to voice their concerns over proposed plans to make a piece of land available for allotments behind properties on Sutton Lane, should the said land become available.
Various exchanges of ideas took place during the evening, with the council agreeing to go away and look at optional plots of land that may be suitable and the availability of the same.
The usual Agenda business then took place.

ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: At the local church on Sunday 28th April “Songs of Praise” will be held. The service commences at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with : Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car insurance, investments and Savings. Please note Monday 6th May is a Bank Holiday.

VILLAGE HALL UPDATE: With all the work mentioned last week carried out, progress is really taking place in the hall. The new hot water system is up and running, glass washer is installed, the few remaining odd-jobs tidied up.
A small band of volunteers spent best part of the week-end cleaning up and giving the hall a well needed spring clean. With the phase 1 works near to completion (no more drilling / sawing / hammering) it was time to make good and apply some finishing touches. The clock is now in situ. the whole hall was cleaned, spruced and freshened, new curtains hung, and the bar / servery area set up ready for a busy week ahead. Many thanks to all that helped.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: A group of ladies from the local branch attended the Annual Meeting held at the Royal Centre in Nottingham on Wednesday 17th April.
The speaker was Jack Shepherd author of the well known “Teacher Teacher books.
A hilarious afternoon and a busy day for local members, many returning from the city and after a quick turn around made their way to their local branch meeting in the evening. They then heard speaker Christine Abbott talk about her time spent with a vet and the RSPCA. A very interesting talk for the evening session despite the fact the speaker stood in for the scheduled speaker at the eleventh hour.
The talk was enjoyed by all present, including two visitors and new members who joined on the night.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local association will meet on Tuesday 29th April at the usual time of 2:30pm.

PPSG: (Parish Plan Steering Group) with the better weather now with us, it was refreshing to see young families utilising the play park to the rear of the Village Hall. The play park opened in June last year after success with an LIS Grant in association with NCC. The addition of the new bench designed by the children of Sutton cum Lound C of E school and purchased by Sutton Parish Council, meant that parents could sit and watch the children whilst enjoying the first warm weekend of the year, with hopefully many more to follow.
SUTTON APRIL CLUB: It was an “Away day” for the Sutton Club when they met on Friday 19th April. The venue on this occasion was The Birches pub and restaurant in Retford, as the club were celebrating 36 years in existence.
Group leader Carole Head had organised a visit to the hostelry to mark the occasion, which was well attended, apart from a few regulars who were suffering from seasonal ailments. Their company was sadly missed.
VILLAGE VENTURES: A full house turned out to see Lights out Land Girls, our final show for the 2012/13 season. The land girls have serious decisions to make in 1945 when deciding what to do in the future when the men come home and the land work is no more for them. Based around Biddy trying to get to Blackpool for a talent contest and a new way of life from Yorkshire Farming, the girls start their quest with help along the way. With sentiment, humour and a touch of nostalgia the Badapple Company delivered a great performance and the technicians and their lighting and props were all well executed throughout the night.
ALLOTMENT FLYER: All households should have received the first consultation flyer over the weekend. This is a base survey to ascertain the requirement for allotments within the parish. Please fill in and return your form to the address shown if you would like or are interested in having allotments within the parish. This is only the first step and this information shall be collated prior to any further consultation process.
