The seller of a motor vehicle advertised in a trade magazine, recently suffered theft of that vehicle under the following circumstances.
A male contacted the seller by phone and a viewing was arranged. At the viewing appointment the prospective purchaser requested a test drive together with the seller who obliged. The purchaser has then asked if he can bring his partner to view the car the following day. The seller has agreed to this and the male together with a female returned the following day as arranged.
The seller, believing the purchaser to be genuine has allowed the male and female to take the vehicle for a test drive.
The car was not returned.
The phone number used was an unregistered pay as you go.
Please be aware that any item that is being advertised for sale could draw unwarranted attention.
When purchasers do turn up please ensure that you do not allow the item being sold to leave your possession without payment for the item.
Circumstances like this are few and far between, but a little vigilance may prevent you becoming a victim.
Sgt 879 Crofts
East Bassetlaw Neighbourhood Sergeant.
