COFFEE MORNING: The next Coffee Morning to be held in the Village Hall, kindly arranged by Brian and Kathryn Seddons, will be on Saturday 18th May from 10:30am to 12:30pm. The Art Club will be putting on a display.

A £2.00 cover charge will get you Coffee and Cake and an instant raffle ticket.

LITTER PICK: The annual Sutton cum Lound village litter pick will take place on Saturday 18th May. All volunteers are most welcome and if you want to make a difference to the village then please meet up at the Village Hall at 9:00am to receive equipment and refuse sacks. When completed all volunteers are entitled to a drink and delicious piece of homemade cake kindly supplied by Brian and Kathryn Seddon’s who will also be running one of the regular coffee mornings on the same day.

ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: At the local church on Sunday 19th May “A Family Service” will take place. The service commences at 9:30am and everyone is welcome. Come along and bring the family.

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with : Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car insurance, investments and Savings.

SCHOOL NEWS: Our football team have had a great season, scoring 27 goals during the matches played against other schools, putting Sutton-cum-Lound second place in the league. We are very grateful to Mr. Clark who has coached the team this season and thank him for his time and support. The team wouldn’t have performed so well without him! Unfortunately, Mr. Clark will be unable to continue in this role. He will be hard to replace but if you know of anyone interested in being our team coach, please contact the school.

The glimpses of recent sunshine have been a welcome sight, especially as we have started taking delivery of items for the garden development, one of which is the chicken run! More news of its forthcoming occupants soon!

Two new after-school clubs have begun this term. Mrs. Hunt, supported by the midday supervisors, is running a fun “Energy Club” based around exercise and sport and for those children who enjoy creative activities, Bassetlaw Play Forum is running a craft club.

VILLAGE HALL UPDATE: Stage one of the refurbishment is almost completed. The new overhead electric heaters are in situ and working.

Thanks to Sutton Art Group for making a substantial donation towards the purchase and installation of these items. Much appreciated.

SUTTON ART GROUP: The group meet every Friday morning in the Village Hall and will continue throughout the season. Further details of the group and their activities are available from Joan Reiter on 01777 702 137 or Margaret Beare on 01777 704 836.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: The group met as arranged on Wednesday 15th May and a report will follow.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local association met on Tuesday 29th April at the usual time of 2:30pm at 52 Station Road in the village.

The following items came under discussion: Security marking of property at the April Coffee Morning. The Secretary reported disappointing sales of SelectaDNA and CREmark Security markers. The items will be on sale again at the forthcoming AGM schedule for Tuesday 21st May at 7:30pm in the Village Hall.

Terry Reynolds and his wife Judith (Chairman and Secretary of Bassetlaw Neighbourhood Watch respectively) who have announced their retirement recently have been invited to join members at the local AGM.

PCSO Dave Airey gave a report on behalf of the Police. Crime in the locality is at a pretty low level at present (although one crime is one too many) a slight increase in incidents has been reported over the last 12 months, mainly due to shed and garage burglaries. The group were commended for their efforts in the sale of shed alarms, sold in an effort to protect and deter further attacks on properties.

It was also announced that the New PCSO for the Sutton and Ranskill beat area will be Aaron Stocks and he will be patrolling village in due course.

Security – residents are again reminded of the prevalence of shed and garage burglaries in the region. Following the successful ‘shed alarm’ and ‘marking your property’ events in the village these items will be on sale or available to order at competitive prices at the Neighbourhood Watch AGM on Tuesday 21 May at 7:30pm in the Village Hall.

The AGM is a NOT TO BE MISSED event with the new Nottinghamshire Police Commissioner, Paddy Tipping, addressing the meeting. Every effort should be made to show the new Commissioner the support for the scheme in our area.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The neighbours group met in the Village Hall on Tuesday 14th May from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and a full report will follow.

VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The Village Hall Committee will hold their AGM on Wednesday 22nd May in the Village Hall at 7:30pm.

Residents are invited to join them and find out future plans for the venue which has undergone major changes over the past twelve months. More changes are planned under stage two of the development programme as and when the financial situation allows. Please attend and show your support.

PARISH COUNCIL: The Council held their monthly meeting on Wednesday 8th May in the Village Hall. The Chairman, Vice Chair, six Councillors and the clerk to the Council were present with two apologies for absence submitted on the night.

Fifteen members of the public were present with County Councillor Liz Yates and District Councillor Tracey Taylor in attendance. PCSO Dave Airey representing the Local Beat Team was also at the meeting.

The first item on the agenda was the election of Chair. The present incumbent Martin Rees stated his intention not to stand for the position at this time having previously held the position for eight years and having served on the council for ten years in total.

Councillor Angela Close was nominated and seconded for the post with the majority of councillors in agreement. Councillor Ron Beare is the new vice Chair.

Apologies had earlier been received from Councillor John Gough who indicated his intention to resign from Council due to his inability to attend future meetings on a regular basis.

The agenda items were discussed and proposals made, the new chair, Angela Close, informed members of the public present, that Council would discuss various matters and report back when further information was to hand.

Due to a resignation a vacancy now exists on the council, the post will be advertised in due course, but any interested parties should contact the Clerk to the Council in the first instance for further information.

The next meeting of the Council is scheduled for Wednesday 12th June and will be held in the Village Hall, commencing at 7:00pm.

COUNCIL ELECTIONS: Congratulations to our County Councilor Liz Yates who successfully retained her seat in the recent County Council elections. Liz has been a familiar face in the village over the past ten years having represented the area at both district level and at county level over the last four years. The Councilor has been involved with many improvements in the village and is always available for support and advice.

SUTTON APRIL CLUB: The Sutton club will meet on Friday 17th May in Sutton Village Hall at the usual time of 2:00pm.
