SURFACE DRESSING: Contractors commenced road surface dressing on Station Road on Wednesday morning of last week. Despite ample warning notices of a 10MPH speed limit many motorist chose to ignore the warnings.
At the time of going to press only one incident of a broken windscreen had been reported. Drivers are also warned of no road markings on the newly laid surface and should still proceed with caution on the street.
After the first load of stone chippings had been laid a motorist exceeding the speed limit had a narrow escape when unable to stop on the newly laid surface , met with a closing barrier at the level crossing, and only just managed to swerve around the second set of gates as they were coming down to the closed position.
The media is full of warnings and advice about care when approaching level crossing and still people are prepared to take risks despite the consequences!
ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: “A Family Service” will take place at the local church on Sunday 16th June. The service commences at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car insurance, investments and Savings.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The Neighbours group met on Tuesday afternoon as scheduled and a full report will follow.
ON HER MAJESTY’S SERVICE: A familiar sight will soon be missing from our village streets, as local post lady Sharon Holland moves on to another postal round due to a management restructuring process. Sharon who has held the present post for the last ten years, although she has been with the Royal Mail for 21years in total, apart from maternity leave, will commence a new round in the Retford area and will finish her spell in the village on or about the 8th July. This will be the last post.
The local deliveries will continue and will mostly be covered by a man with a van.
As Sharon and her trusty steed (Bike) move to Retford, villagers wish her well in her new challenge and thank her for years of dedicated service to the area.

SUTTON APRIL CLUB: The Sutton club will meet in the Village Hall on Friday 14th June at the usual time of 2:00pm. Members old and new always welcome.
SCHOOL NEWS: The children have enjoyed a number of new after-school clubs so far this term. The craft sessions run by Bassetlaw Play Forum have now finished but they were well received. School staff have been running an Energy Club, which continues to be a roaring success, as does the Family Cooking Club for Class 1 and their parents and carers. Our thanks go to the staff who use their time (and energy!) to run these for the benefit of the children. We are hoping to be able to source other external providers, so that we can offer a wider range of after school clubs next term.
School, in partnership with North Notts. College, is hoping to be able to offer learning opportunities for parents and families in the near future. If you are interested in a particular subject area and would relish the opportunity of courses being run locally, then please contact the school office by June 21st with your suggestions.(01777 705 990).
Thank you to villagers who donate items via the clothing bank. The last Ragtex collection raised £100 for school funds, which is a welcome amount. The next collection will be 23rd September.
The last community lunch of this term is on July 17th at 12:00 noon. Everyone is welcome but please book your lunch the previous week by contacting the school office. Why not make an afternoon of it by staying to watch the afternoon production of the school performance at 1:30pm on the same date? We hope to see you there.

VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The Village Hall Committee held their AGM on Wednesday 22nd May in the village hall at 7:30pm.

JUMBLE SALE: Everyone is welcome to attend the jumble sale being held on Saturday 15th June at the Village Hall. Entry is free and refreshments will be available.
