In this period of hot weather people, particularly children, are discouraged from swimming in open water which is not designated for swimming in.
Open water such as ponds, lakes, canals, locks and rivers in our area are dangerous, even in hot weather the water is COLD the water temperature rising to no more than 12 degrees centigrade.
Rivers can be dangerous as you can not assess the strength of current or the depth of the water.
Hidden obstacles lying just under the water are very dangerous and can caused severe injuries.
If people want to swim go to the swimming pool or a lido.
Parents are encouraged to stress upon their children these dangers and hopefully prevent any tragic events from occurring.
