YARD AND CAR BOOT SALE: The yard / car boot sale took place on Sunday 29th September 2013 at the Village Hall. It was a reasonably successful event with takings thought to be in the region of £200 destined for Village Hall funds.

Thanks to all for the support given.

One of the stallholders on the sale day was operating in aid of B.A.R.K. locally based Babworth Animal Rescue Kennels and had a reasonable day with all profits going to the kennels. Two people visiting the event called in at BARK and have in fact signed up to rescue a dog housed at present in the kennels. So, apart from the days takings at the sale, BARK had the additional bonus of finding a good home for yet another unwanted pet thanks to the opportunity offered by the Village Hall committee by way of the boot sale, organised to help raise revenue for Village Hall funds.

SUTTON ART GROUP ANNIVERSARY: In 2014 we celebrate 20 years of art in Sutton Village Hall. The Group started with 14 members and with financial support from the Parish Council who had received a grant to encourage art and culture in the regional villages. Support soon built up and the Group became self-financing, as it has been ever since. We now have a membership limit of 24 and much of the time there are no vacancies.

The first tutor was Ruth Whitham and, although most members at the time had no experience, she successfully showed the Group how to use different media and many techniques and art forms. Liz Woodcock took over and the Group continued to thrive. The Group currently has 23 members with around half living in Retford and surrounding villages.

Sessions are held in Sutton Village Hall on Friday mornings 10:00am to 12:00 noon, and once a month 10:00am to 1:00pm when our present tutor, Elaine Nash, provides demonstrations, insight, advice and critique. We also have several ‘full day’ workshops from 10:00am to 3:00pm with different visiting artists who work in different mediums. There have also been residential weekends with many members taking part.

We enjoy a friendly atmosphere and new members are made very welcome. If you are interested in joining why not pay us a visit on a Friday morning to see what it’s like and chat to members. Alternatively if you wish to make an enquiry please contact either:

  • It makes sense to protect your property as well as your neighbours?

  • Crime Report: PCSO Aaron Stocks was please to inform the group that no crimes were reported in the village during the month of August, but warned against complacency in the area, urging members to remain vigilant at all times and try to retain a low crime rate locally.
  • Other noted crimes include the theft of oil both domestic and vehicle fuel oil from nearby villages and from lorry parking areas near the A1. Farms, Churches, Village halls and isolated properties have also been targeted. The officer also promoted the use of alarms for oil tanks.
