COLD CALLERS: Villagers suspicions were aroused last week when a caller arrived on doorsteps asking for donation in aid of a well-known animal charity.

Although wearing a tabbard bearing the charities logo and a supporting ID card on a lanyard, residents voiced concern relating to the incident mainly due to the time factor, i.e. after 5:00pm and unsure of household collections by the group. Acting on these concerns a member of the local Neighbourhood Watch contacted local PCSO Aaron Stocks with the details. The Officer made contact with the charity concerned, in this case the RSPCA and rang back to say that the caller was indeed genuine and was authorised to collect in the area.

The charity, do actually carry out door to door collections, approximately twice a year on a rotational basis, in the area.

The PCSO thanks villagers for reporting the incident, and urges them to remain vigilant and report anything that arouses suspicion.

On this occasion the caller turned out to be genuine but that may not always be the case.

YARD AND CAR BOOT SALE: Information received after the recent event held at the Village Hall and grounds, one of the stallholders on the sale day was operating in aid of B.A.R.K. locally based Babworth Animal Rescue Kennels and had a reasonable day with all profits going to the kennels.

Two people visiting the event called in at BARK and have in fact signed up to rescue a dog housed at present in the kennels. So apart from the days takings at the sale BARK had the additional bonus of finding a good home for yet another unwanted pet thanks to the opportunity offered by the Village Hall committee by way of the boot sale, organised to help raise much needed funds for the Village Hall.
