LIFE IN COLOUR:Local artist Graham Williams exhibition of original paintings attracted a great deal of attention when the event commenced on Saturday 1:00pm at the Bassetlaw Museum in Grove Street Retford. Keen art buffs were awaiting the opening of the of the display well before the official opening time and were amazed and delighted at the volume and quality of the exhibits on show.
Titled “Life in Colour” the exhibit contained a great variety of subjects from everyday life and even a few well-known pop stars managed to get their faces on canvas.
Graham and wife Pauline were on hand to welcome visitors on the day and offer drinks and nibbles. A raffle took place during the afternoon of an original painting, with the proceeds going to a local charity.
The event itself will run from 19th October 2013 until 14th January 2014 and is highly recommended by those who attended many vowing to come back again for a second look. Winners of the raffle prize drawn towards the end of the first day were Frank and Mavis Bradley from Sutton cum Lound.
Enquiries regarding sales of the artists work come from as far afield as America and the Far East.
COFFEE MORNING: The coffee morning took place in the Village Hall on Saturday 19th October as scheduled. Regular hosts Brian and Kathryn Seddons were on hand from 10:30am until 12:30pm to welcome visitors to yet another successful event. One or two new faces were in attendance and joined in with regulars to enjoy morning coffee.
The next coffee morning is destined to take place on Saturday 7th December, this will be the final coffee morning of the year.
Make a date in your diary to go along and get the 3c’s as you enter the festive season (Coffee, Cake and Conversation). There are no strangers here – only friends you’ve yet to meet!
ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: At the local church on Sunday 27th October “Songs of Praise” will take place. Please come and sing along! The service starts at the usual time of 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
NETWORKRAIL: Work went ahead on the night of Saturday 19th October on the Barnby Moor / Sutton level crossing on Station Road which resulted in the road being closed for a specified period during the work schedule.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: The members met on the evening of Wednesday 16th October in the Village Hall with President Mrs Jackie Payne conducting the official business.
Plans for the forthcoming celebrations were progressed with members past and present eagerly awaiting the event. Member Mavis Bradley gave the gathering an update on a recent visit to Denman College in Oxford, accompanied by partner in crime Fiona Pagdin.
This was members evening and the chosen topic was Glass Painting.
The members were able to try their hand at this very worthwhile pursuit under the watchful eye of tutor Mrs Val Moore who was on hand to help and advise if needed.
All present made an effort on the night, many to a high standard, and came away with a another trophy for the display cabinet.
A stall operating on the night displayed home made preserves.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The next meeting of the local committee is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 29th October 2013 at the usual time of 2:30pm.
SUTTON ART GROUP: The group meet every Friday morning in the Village Hall and will continue throughout the season. A few vacancies exist within the group at this time and further details of the group and their activities are available from either:
