Theft of temporary traffic light batteries

This is a message sent via Neighbourhood Alert. This information has been sent on behalf of Nottinghamshire Police

Message sent by

Lindsay Donnelly (Police, Administrator, Nottinghamshire)

We have received a number of recent reports where temporary traffic lights at road works have had the batteries operating the traffic lights stolen from within their containers, by forcing the steel containers or angle grinding the locks off.

A number of these incidents have occurred along the NET line two and line three (of the tram works) in Nottingham, however, there have been other reports in other parts of Nottinghamshire as well.

All these offences have occurred when the road works have closed for the day, with the majority of thefts occurring late night or into the early hours of the morning.

The batteries can be used for leisure purposes i.e. caravans, camper vans and boats etc. The batteries also have a scrap value.

If anyone witnesses persons interfering with or removing batteries from temporary traffic lights, they should phone 999 immediately. If you are or anyone that you know is offered a similar battery for sale at discounted price, please contact the Police on 101.
