PARISH MAGAZINES: Villagers are probably well aware that for a variety of reasons the ever popular circulation Sutton Spotlight has now ceased publication The same fate has also befallen the other community magazine, By the Way.
In an effort to resurrect the Sutton Spotlight, local man Brian Seddons has agreed to be temporary stand in sub-editor for a limited time to try produce further issues of this information sheet. Most villagers would agree that its circulation would, and has, benefited the area in the past and would do so again in the future. Most villages in the surrounding area have a magazine / newsletter in order to keep residents up to date with village news and views Whilst Brian is keen to get things moving, he obviously cannot do this on his own. He needs your help!
Residents are invited to forward comments or interesting items from a period over the last three months, or anything relating to the forthcoming three months, with a view to publication. There appear to be plenty of talkers in the area but not many doers, so if you are a doer now’s your chance to come forward and put something in print. Brian is waiting for you to get in touch. Help Brian to help you! Any news and views will be appreciated and could appear in your magazine produced by an army of volunteers with the village interest at heart.

LEVEL CROSSING – STATION ROAD: Due to a barrier malfunction on Friday morning (when one of the four barrier gates failed to close) many motorists faced a long wait or a detour as they made their way in or out of the village via Station Road. Railtrack had a Rapid Response Unit in position blocking the gap left by the non-functioning gate shortly after the fault was apparent. No road signs were in position as staff thought the problem could be identified on arrival. The road was closed to traffic for approximately 2 hours and re-opened when repairs were completed.
ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: ”Holy Communion” will take place on Sunday 9th March at the local church. Please come along and join in.
The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

SUTTON GARDENING CLUB: The club held its meeting on Tuesday 4 March at 7.15pm in the Village Hall when Ron Beare gave an illustrated talk on ‘Orchids and Carnivorous plants in the home and garden’. A further report will follow.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local association met on Wednesday 26th February at the usual time of 2:30pm at 52 Station Road. In the absence of Chairman Harry Hopkins Secretary David Mowthorpe chaired the meeting. Various items came under discussion and some are listed below:
- Speeding in the village: PCSO Aaron Stocks informed the Committee that when speed cameras had been deployed earlier in the month it had done so for half an hour and 9 cars had been detected and 2 caught speeding. This was part of a large operation in the district which had monitored over 200 vehicles. Mobile phone users were also caught. As was expected, Ranskill with a main road passing though the length of the town, was the main area for the number of speeding drivers.
It was confirmed that the Parish Council had secured 5 residents to participate in Speedwatch and that training of the volunteers was eagerly awaited.
- Police Report: Crime information – In January there were 22 crimes across the district with 1 of them in Sutton cum Lound. Regrettably, so far in February there have been 14 crimes of which 4 have been in the village – 1 catalytic converter and 3 shed/garage burglaries. It is likely that the latter were all committed by one person in one evening.
The meeting was attended by County Councillor Liz Yates and District Councillor Tracey Taylor and PCSO 4778 Aaron Stocks
