OPEN STUDIOS: Local man Richard Rogers is opening his studio on Sutton Lane in the village to the public as part of the 2014 Notts Open Studios Event. The dates for the above are as follows and include the weekends of May 31st – June 1st and June 14th – 15th.
Over 150 artists and craft makers invite you to visit their studios and events in Nottinghamshire from the 3rd May until the 15th June. In the immediate area studios are situated at Mattersey, Sutton cum Lound, Retford, Askham, Laneham and Tuxford, with others spread throughout the county. This gives interested parties the opportunity to see and buy contemporary art and craft works at source produced in the own area.
The event is promoted by Open Studios Notts, supported by Nottinghamshire County Council. Free entry to studios and events unless otherwise stated.
ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: Sunday 13th April is “Palm Sunday” and Holy Communion will take place at the local Church. The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: Wednesday 16th April is the next date for the local W I meeting. On this occasion Steve Shelley from the Deli and Dine will address the membership .and a full report will follow next week. Members old and new always welcome.
VILLAGE QUIZ NIGHT: Tickets are selling well as momentum gathers for the Village quiz night scheduled to take place on Friday 25th April at 7:30pm in the Village Hall. The event will include a pie and pea supper as part of the fun quiz night, which will cost £5.00 per person. With a maximum of four players per team the event is open to all comers.

GARDENING CLUB: Please ensure you have the date of the AGM in your diary, Tuesday 6th May at 7:15pm in the Village Hall.
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The Neighbours group met as planned on Tuesday 8th April 2014 at Sutton Village Hall and a full report will follow next week.
COFFEE MORNING: The coffee morning held last Saturday in the Village Hall was a well attended event with approximately 38 people coming through the door. Visitors were in for a treat as they weighed up the options of the fresh home-made cakes placed before them. Minds made up those attending were soon chatting to friends old and new whilst enjoying their selection of cake washed down with lashings of hot tea or coffee.
The session takes place approximately every 6 weeks and is organised and run by Brian and Kathryn Seddons and family on behalf of the Village Hall. The proceeding was attended by County Councillor Liz Yates and husband Terry who come to support the event, with any profits from the coffee morning destined for Village Hall funds.
VINTAGE TRACTOR RUN: Around 130 vintage tractors passed through the village on Sunday morning as the annual North Wheatley Tractor Run took place and passed through the neighbouring villages of North Notts. Villagers turned out to applaud their efforts and enjoy the sights of yesteryear.
MORE NOSTALGIA : After the sightings of the “SIR NIGEL GRESLEY” last Saturday viewed by 30 people at Sutton level crossing and by others at many more points along the main line, local steam enthusiasts, although not as many, were in the area to catch sight of the steam loco Tornado as she made her way south last week. Although not under full steam and assisted by an older type diesel engine it still brought happy memories back to those who were fortunate to see it.
