
ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: This Friday, 18th April, is “Good Friday and a Tenebrae Service will take place at the local church. The evening service starts at 7:00pm and everyone is welcome.
Sunday, being Easter Day, Holy Communion will take place at the earlier time of 9:00am and again everyone is welcome.
VILLAGE QUIZ NIGHT: The Village quiz night scheduled to take place on Friday 25th April at 7:30pm. in the Village Hall looks like being a sell out. With fifty of the sixty allocated tickets bought and paid for at this stage and one or two other enquiries pending, organisers are confident of a full house on the night.
Computers are red hot as teams swot up and mull over facts ready for the event. The event will include a pie and pea supper as part of the fun quiz night, which will cost £5.00 per person. With a maximum of four players per team the event is open to all comers.
Come and have a go if you fancy a challenge. A cash prize will be up for grabs on the night and a licensed bar will be available. Any remaining tickets will be available from Mavis Bradley on 01777 705 060 or Fred Payne on 01777 707 562.
SUTTON APRIL CLUB: As Friday the 18th is Good Friday there will not be a meeting of the group on that day. Further information will follow.
VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: When the committee meet on Wednesday 23rd April, in the Village Hall it will be the group’s AGM. On this occasion all the committee members will stand down and a new committee will be formed. Anyone wishing to stand for a position on the committee is requested to contact Chair Angela Close or any committee member as soon as possible.
Residents are invited to join the present committee on the night as they work on your behalf. Any ideas and suggestions will be much appreciated and may be used to formulate future policies relating to the running of the hall.
PARISH COUNCIL: The council met in the Village Hall on Wednesday 9th April at 7:00pm with Councillor Ron Beare in the chair. There were six councillors present and three apologies offered on the night. Clerk to the Council Nigel Johnson noted the proceedings and members of the public were also present.
During the public participation period a villager asked for an update on the situation with regards to the drilling exploration for shale gas at the Daneshill site. The Chairman brought the enquirer up to date with the latest information to hand and questions were answered satisfactorily. Other items under discussion included the Safer Neighbourhood Groups and Neighbourhood Watch Street lighting poll. This survey is on-going and some papers will be returned later this week and be collated before any decision are reached.
Summer Fayre and planning applications were amongst other items discussed on the night. District Councillor Tracey Taylor was in attendance at this meeting to support and advise.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: The WI ladies met as planned on Wednesday 16th April in the Village Hall. On this occasion Steve Shelley from the Deli and Dine was due to address the membership .and a full report will follow. Members old and new always welcome
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The Neighbours group met as planned on Tuesday 8th April 2014 at Sutton Village Hall and forty-three residents and friends turned up at the venue for the pie and pea luncheon organised by Joan Reiter and her team. Those attending were highly impressed with quality of the pie and peas provided by a local caterer and, as a bonus, diners were served with a dessert to complement their lunch. Tea and coffees were then served and official notices were given out and the gathering was invited to attempt a small local quiz with all the answers relating to the village and its inhabitants. On completion of this a local resident gave a vote of thanks to the organiser and her team.
The regular Neighbours team is made up of Joan Reiter, Margaret Boreham, Jean Beardsall, Rose Cody, April Lavin and Margaretha Sugden with friends and neighbours helping when required. County Councillor Liz Yates was in attendance in support of the event. Thanks to all concerned for a good afternoon, bringing the community together.
