VILLAGE HALL: If you are a local tradesman or handy person or even a competent D.I.Y person the Village Hall could do with your assistance on a voluntary basis. If you can spare an hour or two per month to help keep the Village Hall in shape and maintained in a reasonable order then the Village Hall Committee would like to hear from you.

The objective is to build a volunteer force for the odd jobs and snagging that crop up from time to time at the hall and become a drain on the finances raised for major hall improvements. Any offers of help would be appreciated by the hall Trustees and certainly by the community at large.

Interested parties are asked to contact any member of the Village Hall committee or telephone 07092 985 831 for further details.

PARISH COUNCIL: The next meeting of Sutton Parish Council will take place on Thursday 13th November at 7:00pm. The change of the scheduled meeting is due to a meeting organised by Network Rail and the Parish Council on Wednesday 12th.

Please note this change is for this month only and the meeting in December will revert back to the second Wednesday which is the 10th December.

NETWORK RAIL: Representatives from Network Rail have arranged to meet with villagers and other members of the public on Thursday 27th November in the Village Hall between the hours of 2:00pm and 7:00pm. The reason for the meeting is to update residents on the decisions to be made about the East Coast Main Line Level Crossing Closure programme and hopefully the results of the recent Feasibility Study.

Villagers are urged to attend during the session and give their opinions on the proposed options which will effect all residents in some way and many residents in surrounding areas.

GATE INN: After many hours of hard graft and various disappointments by all those involved, the local hostelry, The Gate Inn, opened its doors to customers old and new on Saturday evening 1st November after being closed for approximately eight weeks for refurbishment. Shortly after opening the venue was packed to overflowing as visitors called in to see and discuss the changes made to the venue.

Thanks to all concerned for the efforts in retaining and making the pub a place for villager’s and friends to meet, hopefully, for many years to come.

QUIZ NIGHT: The quiz nights re-established at the Gate Inn continue to attract Contestant’s from far and near with another good turnout last week. The winners on this occasion were again locals with the Sethis and the Buicks teaming up to be outright winners on the night and share the spoils.

The quiz was a strictly run event with quizmaster John Jones pontificating on the night, but not without a bit of light banter and good humour thrown in.

Another quiz next Sunday at the regular starting time of eight 0’clock. All challengers welcome.
