CHRISTMAS MARKET: The Village Hall will be home to the annual Christmas market on the afternoon of Saturday 22nd November from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Stalls will have a selection of seasonal gifts, including cards and decorations. A raffle will take place and a Tombola stall will operate. Mulled wine and Minced Pies will be available.

Admission is free so come along and bring the family!! A good start to the Festive Season.

SUTTON ART GROUP: The Annual Exhibition of members work, held in the Village Hall on Saturday 15th November, was a great success with around 100 members’ exhibits and lots of visitors from residents of the village and the surrounding area. Both the school and pre-school group joined in with a good display of 48 exhibits in total.

The sale of paintings together with a contribution from the tea money resulted in a donation to ‘Help for Heroes’.

SUTTON SPOTLIGHT: Please could villagers provide any content for the Christmas edition of the Sutton Spotlight to the editor by Friday 5th December. Organisers are aiming to have printed and distributed this edition by the weekend of 13/14 December which is a little earlier than normal but given the time of year there is much going on. Any forthcoming events happening during the Christmas period and for the first 3 months of the New Year need to be included.

STOLEN BICYCLE: A gent’s pedal cycle was taken from the rear garden of a property on Station Road, between Sunday 9th November and Thursday 13th November. Police are investigating the incident, with local PCSO Aaron Stocks making door to door enquiries on the street.

Residents are asked to remain vigilant as usual, and even more so during the run up to the festive season.

ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: On Sunday, November 23rd, “Songs of Praise” will take place at the local church. The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

FRIENDS OF DANESHILL LAKES: The next meeting of the Friends will be on Monday evening, 24th November 2014, at 7:00 pm, at the Idle Valley Rural Learning Centre, Great North Road, Retford DN22 8RQ. The aim of the group is to protect and enhance the Reserve for wildlife and visitors, including organising education fundraising events, providing visitor information and practical advice.

Daneshill Lakes is owned by Nottinghamshire County Council and now maintained by the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. Everyone is welcome to join the meeting. Light refreshments will be available.

NETWORK RAIL: Representatives from Network Rail have arranged to meet with villagers and other members of the public on Thursday 27th November in the Village Hall between the hours of 2:00pm and 7:00pm. The reason for the meeting is to update residents on the decisions to be made about the East Coast Main Line Level Crossing Closure programme and hopefully the results of the recent Feasibility Study.

Villagers are urged to attend during the session and give their opinions on the proposed options which will effect all residents in some way and many residents in surrounding areas.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: The next meeting of Sutton Parish Council will take place on .Wednesday 10th December at the usual time of 7:00pm.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The Neighbours group met as scheduled on Tuesday 11th November at the usual starting time of 2:00pm.

This was a well attended event with 33 people present on the day.

Being the 11th of November it was felt the day should be remembered locally as well as nationally. A short commemorative service was held and amidst the memorabilia on show, as local resident Fred Payne reflected on both wars and its effects over the years. Things ended on a happier note when Fred and Joan Reiter led the gathering in a short rendering of songs that helped win the war(s).

Various notices were given out and the usual raffle took place as neighbours socialised over afternoon tea, and remembered.!!

QUIZ NIGHT: The weekly quiz night took place on Sunday 16th November at the local hostelry again with high scoring rounds being achieved on the night. Challengers from near and far are turning up to compete with the locals as they vie for the gallon of ale on offer on quiz nights. Last Sunday’s winners were Pablo and the Young Generation.

Another quiz night next Sunday at the usual starting time of 8:00pm.
