ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH:  “A Family Service” will take place at the local church on Sunday 21st December at the usual time of 9:30am.   Please come along and bring the family. Everybody welcome.

On Wednesday evening, 24th December, a Crib Service will be held at church at 6:00pm.

Later in the evening, Midnight Mass will take place, with the service commencing at 11:30pm.

On Thursday 25th December, Christmas Day, a Sung Holy Communion will take place at 9:00am.

THE GATE INN: A new chef has been appointed at the local hostelry, The Gate Inn. The new incumbent is Dean Slater who brings a wealth of experience to the local venue. With 30 years in the catering profession Dean has plied his trade in Glasgow and Edinburgh whilst working north of the border and has also worked in North and South Yorkshire. Other areas include the Cotswolds, Oxford with overseas postings taking him to France, Italy and Greece.

Food is available from 5:00pm each evening and a new and varied menu is being prepared.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The Neighbours group met last Tuesday at the later time of 4:30pm for a pre-Christmas get together with approximately 40 people present. After an enjoyable afternoon, helped along with the traditional Christmas sherry, followed by an excellent buffet washed down with lashings of hot tea and coffee, Thorsby Brass Band came to entertain the group and played a selection of Christmas Carols with full audience participation.

Various notices were given out and the usual raffle took place. Villagers socialised for the rest of the evening and proceedings ended at about 7:30pm.

The session was attended by District Councillor Tracey Taylor with County Councillor Liz Yates also in attendance.   The event was organised by Joan Reiter and her Meet the Neighbours team.

QUIZ NIGHT: Another quiz night took place on Sunday 14th December at the usual starting time of 8:00pm, with a similar format to the previous week but with questions appearing to be a bit more difficult. At the end of play the declared winners on this occasion were the team known as “With Brains”.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: The ladies of the Sutton and Barnby Moor WI met in the Village Hall on Wednesday 17th December at 7:15pm. As this was the occasion of the groups’ Christmas Party there was no speaker on this occasion. Members were invited to bring along a Christmas Gift Parcel (Valued at around £2.00}.

A raffle took place on the night and a competition for the best home made decoration was also held.
