HORSES: On Sunday night, 4th January, for the second time in a month person or persons unknown went into the Manor House field on Town Street and took the rugs off the horses and just left them on the ground. The police have been informed. Have you any information which may be of interest to the police?
Please keep your eyes open to help identify anyone involved in any future incidents.
In another incident two teenage girls were seen in the field on Sunday and also in the horses field behind the lawnmower place on Town Street. Will parents or guardians please advise children that although horses appear very nice they are unpredictable and dangerous and serious injuries could result if the animals are approached by strangers.
Further information has come to light with regards to the incidents and Police are continuing with their enquiries.
PARISH COUNCIL: The Council will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday 14th January 2015 in the Village Hall at the usual time of 7:00pm.
Council Chairman Ron Beare invites residents to join him and fellow councillors on the night.
ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: A “Family Service” will take place at the local church on Sunday 18th January . please come along and bring the family. The service starts at 9:30pm and everyone is welcome.
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The Meet the Neighbours group held their first meeting of the New Year in The Gate Inn on Tuesday 13th January at 1:pm. A full report will follow next week.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: When the ladies of Sutton and Barnby Moor W I meet on Wednesday 21st January 2015 at the usual time of 7:15pm. it will be the groups “Members Night”. Visitors and new members always welcome.
BURNS SUPPER: The Annual Burns Supper scheduled for Saturday 24th January was a complete sell out soon after application forms were circulated in the village.
VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The Village Hall committee will hold their first meeting of the year on Thursday 29th January in the hall at the usual time of 7:30pm.
QUIZ NIGHT: A few less quizzers were present on Sunday evening for the ever popular Quiz Night held at the local hostelry. The smaller turn-out was mainly due to colds and flu’s and other seasonal ailments which seem to be rife in the village at the moment. Regular quiz master John Jones, himself a victim of the prevalent virus arranged the quiz questions but due to a deterioration of his condition was confined to bed. Local resident Nigel Johnson stepped into the breach and took charge for the evening. Questions just as difficult as last week, some more so, caused some consternation among those present. Brains in gear and a good start was made by the keen entrants and again a high standard was set.
A quiz supper of chilli and rice was presented at the interval courtesy of the Gate Inn. The second half the teams were as keen as ever and a good humoured battled continued, with only minimal points separating all the teams towards the end of the night. The final count-down resulted in the local team known as CG Lee being declared worthy winners of the event. A round of applause for the winners and for quizmaster Nigel Johnson brought the evening to a close.
