WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: A surprise lay in store for the ladies of Sutton and Barnby Moor W I when they held their “Members Night” on Wednesday 21st January 2015.

This was Members Night with a twist, as it is usually a games night, a night without a speaker. Two Committee Members had other ideas and had secretly organised a cookery class for the evening, not only organising the event but providing all the ingredients and the utensils required. Working in teams of two, the group were soon making a mixture ( mixed with laughter and baked with love) which would turn out to be a apricot and date slice, with a bit of luck. No luck required on this occasion as the ladies efforts were baked to perfection. Business for the night was done whilst the baking was taking place.

This was followed by tea and biscuits served by hostesses for the evening Sally Palmer and Mavis Bradley. At the end of the evening members were proud to take home the freshly baked produce for a late supper. The group would unanimously like to thank Michelle Jaafar and Christine Abbott for their efforts and for making it a night to remember!

QUIZ NIGHT: Again a reasonable turnout when the weekly quiz took place at the Gate Inn on Sunday evening. Seven teams were competing on this occasion and Question Master John Jones was in the chair. A mixed bag of questions and a mixed bag of answers during the evening, with nobody giving anything away.

The usual Quiz supper was presented to the group during the interval courtesy of resident chef Dean Slater.

After the break teams were trying harder than ever to win the coveted prize on offer, but not without sounds of joy and disappointment from various quarters. On completion of the quiz and close scrutiny of the answers, the Question Master declared “The Girls” as this weeks’ winners, by three points, with the Dot Com team in second place.

Another quiz next week at the usual starting time of 8 00pm..
