ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: At the local church on Sunday 22nd February “Songs of Praise” will take place.
The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
FRIENDS OF DANESHILL LAKES: The Friends of Daneshill Lakes, Local Nature Reserve, General meeting will take place on Monday 23rd February 2015 at 7:00pm at the Idle Valley Rural Learning Centre, Great North Road, Retford DN22 8RQ (sat nav DN22 8SG). All welcome.
VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The Village Hall Committee have decided to revert to their scheduled meeting date on Wednesday 25th February 2015 at the usual time of 7:30pm at the Village Hall.
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: A group of 35 people met for a meal at the Gate Inn on Tuesday 10th February and in a convivial atmosphere enjoyed a meal of lasagne cooked by chef Dean Slater. The usual quiz and raffle was accompanied by lots of chatter and fun and a good time was had by all.
The next meeting will be held on 12th March and the meal will be cottage pie, peas and carrots followed by a cuppa. If you would like to come along and have not yet put your name down, please ring Joan on 702 137. If you would just like to join us for a cup of tea, please come along and join in the fun. GATE INN: Locals as well as visitors enjoyed a Valentine meal at the local hostelry over the week-end.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: The W I ladies met on Wednesday evening, 18th February, in the Village Hall at the usual time of 7:15pm. This was the groups AGM and buffet and a full report will follow.
QUIZ NIGHT: Questions were asked at the Gate Inn on Sunday night when the popular weekly quiz took place. With more teams than usual taking part, competition was keener as the groups did battle. In the absence of regular question master, John Jones, local resident Brian Seddon’s was pontificating for the night.
Another batch of difficult questions soon had the team’s soul searching and head scratching in an effort to obtain an answer in part one.
After a quiz supper provided by mine hosts Dean Slater and Jane, it was time for part two of the nights event. More questions designed to test the brains of the best informed members present got underway, with all the teams trying to win the coveted prize on offer. Another close finish with two teams neck and neck until the last questions were asked. The victors on the night were then declared as the team known as “One Man Down” who were deemed worthy winners and were applauded by the other teams present.
Another quiz next week at the usual starting time of 8:00pm.
