SUTTON ART GROUP: It has been a particularly busy and exciting spring for The Art Group with their celebration of 20 years of Art in Sutton cum Lound in full swing and with expert input from three professional artists. It started with a watercolour workshop by Elaine Nash with the theme Painting a Landscape in Loose Watercolour with advice about basic composition, light and dark, perspective, tonal balance, and texture. This is to be followed by a session on March 20th dealing with Shadows and Reflections in Landscapes.
On the 3rd February they had by a full day workshop with a difference led by an enthusiastic Sarah Moss. She introduced the group to oil painting with the finger!, followed first by drawing on black fabric with bleach then by painting on the drawing with acrylics – amazing results ensued.
The theme of Painting in the Community started on the 20th February with Elaine Nash and 16 excited young children working on such topics as Birds in Trees in Winter and Happy Penguins. This was followed on the 27th and 28th February with a fun weekend water colour workshop with Peter Woolley culminating in an Art Taster for the Public which was attended by nine adults with some very good results.
SUTTON GARDENING CLUB: The 2015 programme got off to a flying start with a quiz in The Gate Inn – twenty members participated and Pablo Stott was an excellent quiz master who showed a mastery of horticultural matters and maintenance of order from some of the most argumentative participants.
The first talk of the year was given by Gill McMaster of our local nursery – Morton Nurseries. The talk centred on a large selection of shrubs which were on display, and Gill’s horticultural expertise and enthusiasm made this an excellent evening.
The March meeting was of two halves. First the rules, schedule and categories of entry for the Village Flower and Produce Show were agreed with a few category changes from last year. We hope that many of you will exhibit on the 12th September. The second half was an interesting slide show of the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest in Singapore – is this their answer to the Eden Project?
The 2015 Programme has been published (see the village notice boards and website) so make a note in your diaries of events you may wish to participate in – many are open to non-members who are most welcome.
